Save Popponesset Bay -
May 2011 update

Update
April 2011

Let the summer of 2011 begin!

As the weather on the Cape catches up to the warmer temperatures in the rest of New England, summer is arriving.  The Spit is more substantial following the two winter dredging projects.  The dredging pipe has been removed from the Spit, the striped bass and bluefish are back in big numbers (blues all over, especially when you want just bass), boats are back on docks and we'll be swimming soon.

More good news is that there appears to be a settlement in the works for the Popponesset Marketplace and the issue of compliance with the ADA standards. The whole issue and possibility of closing reinforced for people how much the Popponesset Marketplace is an important part of the summer experience for families in and annual visitors to New Seabury and Popponesset. Let's hope that agreement works out!

The summer kickoff dinner supports the efforts of Save Popponesset Pay whose mission is to keep safe and navigable the waterways in and around Popponesset Bay and to protect the Popponesset Spit barrier beach and endangered species habitat. Some of the activities from the past winter, including two major dredging projects, can be seen on the new SPB website and newsletter updates

At the dinner, you'll have the chance to view and order a striking framed collage of photos of the Spit and Bay taken by Beverly Myers Bailey.  Proceeds will support SPB, an all-volunteer 501 c 3 organization.

A big thanks to our business friends, whose financial support helps offset the cost of the dinner:

Can't wait to kick off the summer!!
