Dear Preschool Families,
October is Fire Safety Month. The children will be visited by firefighters from Engine 18 the week of Oct. 22! Be prepared to show your child how to exit your house, where to go and/or who to call in the event of an emergency.
|
Classroom Highlights
Here are some highlights of the week:
- Mrs. Furnier's class has been farmers. They planted vegetables, picked vegetables, explored vegetables and much more. I am sorry if your child came home a little dirty, but it was well worth it!
- Mrs. Olson's class has been learning all about fire safety. They discussed good fire vs. bad fire and what to do in an emergency. Good thing they have started to learn their addresses and phone numbers.
- Mrs. Spurgeon's class is really focusing on Zoo Phonics and the letter sounds. Ask your child to recite the alphabet Zoo Phonics style.

Field Days
Calling all dads! Field days are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 16. Come spend a couple of hours with your child while encouraging his/her gross motor skills! We will have several stations that the children will rotate through. Some examples include parachute games, bean bag toss and more. We need volunteers to help man the stations, so a volunteer sign-up form will be emailed early next week. While we are encouraging dads to come, moms are invited as well.

Preschool Fundraising Programs
There are several simple ways you can financially support the Ben Franklin Academy Preschool. This week, I would like to highlight the following fundraising programs:
Book Fair
Today is the last day for Ben Franklin Academy's Scholastic Book Fair. It is from 2-8 p.m., today, Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Library. Don't forget to stop by to buy a book for your child or your child's classroom!
Dine Out Night at Lil' Ricci's Pizza
Ben Franklin Academy's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting its first Dine Out Night from 5-9 p.m., today, Thursday, Oct. 11, at Lil' Ricci's NY Pizzeria in Highlands Ranch. You must turn in a fundraising flyer for the school to receive its 20 percent donation from the restaurant. Can't make it tonight? It is good through Saturday, Oct. 13. We hope to see you there! Questions? Contact Laurie Kerman.
Pre-Order Your BFA Cookbook
L ast chance! Pre-order your copy of the Ben Franklin Academy Cookbook by today, Thursday, Oct. 11, so you don't miss out on the fabulous collection of recipes and helpful hints from your Ben Franklin Academy neighbors! The cookbook includes more than 400 delicious recipes submitted by our school community - and your child's artwork could be on one of the section dividers! Cookbooks will be delivered after Thanksgiving Break, which is plenty of time to give them as the perfect holiday gift.
Cookbooks may be purchased either online in the BFA Store or in person with cash or check at Parent-Teacher Conferences tonight. Questions? E-mail the Baking Committee. For additional information on preschool fundraising programs, please click here.

PAC Preschool Social
If you are planning on attending the annual pumpkin festival at the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield this year, consider joining the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and fellow Ben Franklin Academy preschool families from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. Wearing Ben Franklin Academy spirit wear is an easy way to spot each other, but we also will host a site so you can find your child's buddies to say "hi" and play together.
Throughout the year, the PAC will sponsor several opportunities to create relationships between
the families in our preschool community, so please join us! Add this social to your calendar; a reminder also will be sent Friday, Oct. 12. For specific details about the event, please click on the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. If you are interested in purchasing spirit wear for your child, go online to the BFA store.

Quote of the Week
"Why did you name yourself Mrs. Spurgeon?"
"Well, when I married my husband, I took his name."
"Why did he name you Mrs. Spurgeon?"
Tough concept to grasp! Love to hear the curiosity, Caitlin!
Sincerely,
Kristen Goldberg
