Quote of the Week
Dear Preschool Families,

We had a lot of dancing with animals this week.  Thank you for remembering to bring in a stuffed animal from home.  It is always nice for preschoolers to be reminded of home during their busy day.

Classroom Highlights

Here are some highlights of the week:

  • Mrs. Furnier's class has been busy practicing cutting and exploring their emotions.  They discussed how they feel when it is time to take a bath; when they go to school; and what makes them angry, sad or happy.  They also expressed those emotions through painting.
  • Mrs. Olson's class has been working on quality coloring by taking those scribbles and turning them into masterpieces.  This focuses on building fine motor skills and confidence.  Science time is all about learning about living vs. non-living things.  Have fun with your child, and point out items as you drive home to see if s/he knows whether the items are living or non-living.
  • Mrs. Spurgeon's class is learning about farms and fall.  During science time, they discussed how corn and apples grow.  Then, they explored corn syrup as a paint and painted beautiful pumpkins.  Mr. Hoots brought an apple of which they were able to examine the inside and then use to make apple prints.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 11.  It is a great time to get to know your child's teacher, share important information about your child and hear about how your child is doing in preschool.  An email from SignUp Genius was sent to all families to schedule a time.  If you have not received the email, please contact me immediately.
Field Days

Calling all dads!  Field days are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 16.  Come spend a couple of hours with your child while encouraging his/her gross motor skills!  We will have several stations that the children will rotate through.  Some examples include parachute games, bean bag toss and more.  We need volunteers to help man the stations, so a volunteer sign-up form will be emailed early next week.  While we are encouraging dads to come, moms are invited as well.

Kindergarten Enrollment

It is time to start the enrollment process for kindergarten!  If your child will be attending kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year, and you wish to place them in the Ben Franklin Academy lottery, please click here to complete the online form.

Preschool families are now eligible for priority placement!  Our full enrollment policy can be found here

Preschool Fundraising Programs
There are several simple ways you can financially support the Ben Franklin Academy Preschool.  This week, I would like to highlight the following fundraising programs:

Box Tops

The next Box Tops collection date is Wednesday, Oct. 10.  Remember to send in your Box Tops, Labels for Education UPCs and Tyson Project A+ labels in the Cookie Monster bag (or on applicable collection sheets) and return them to your child's teacher.

Dine Out Night at Lil' Ricci's Pizza

Ben Franklin Academy's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting its first Dine Out Night from 5-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Lil' Ricci's NY Pizzeria in Highlands Ranch.  You must turn in a fundraising flyer for the school to receive its 20 percent donation from the restaurant.  Can't make it Oct. 11?  It is good through Saturday, Oct. 13. We hope to see you next Thursday night!  Questions?  Contact Laurie Kerman.

Pre-Order Your BFA Cookbook

Last chance!  Pre-order your copy of the Ben Franklin Academy Cookbook by Thursday, Oct. 11, so you don't miss out on the fabulous collection of recipes and helpful hints from your Ben Franklin Academy neighbors!  Cookbooks may be purchased either online in the BFA Store  or in person with cash or check at both Parent-Teacher Conference nights. Questions?  E-mail the Baking Committee.

PAC Preschool Social

If you are planning on attending the annual pumpkin festival at the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield this year, consider joining the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and fellow Ben Franklin Academy preschool families from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13Wearing Ben Franklin Academy spirit wear is an easy way to spot each other, but we also will host a site so you can find your child's buddies to say "hi" and play together.

Throughout the year, the PAC will sponsor several opportunities to create relationships between
the families in our preschool community, so please join us!  Add this social to your calendar; a reminder also will be sent Friday, Oct. 12.  For specific details about the event, please click on the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield.  If you are interested in purchasing spirit wear for your child, go online to the BFA store.
Quote of the Week

I was at the back of a line of preschoolers as we entered the building when a child said to me "Mrs. Goldberg, go away.  I want to be the caboose."  These children take their classroom jobs very seriously.

Sincerely,

Kristen Goldberg
