E Period!
On this year's calendar, you will notice many Thursdays listing "E Period." The "E" stands for Enrichment, and we hope this new addition to our schedule will truly enrich our students' experience at NDA, our assemblies and major meetings will be held during the Thursday block. We have also added a few new activities, such as "NDA Families." You'll hear more about the families as the year progresses! On Thursdays with no assembly or meeting or with only a short one, we will have "Enrichment Time" when students can find their teachers for extra help. Although this will only be an occasional opportunity, it will alleviate some of the pressure to meet at lunchtime, before school, after school and at break. The key will be for students to learn to make the best possible use of this time, so studying silently, working with study partners and meeting with teachers .
See you at E Period soon!

The theme of the conference is "The Struggle for Gender Equity".
According to Virginia O'Mahony, ICP President, "one of the conference outcomes will be a publication drawing together the analyses and recording the issues and our way of working through them in schools. We also will be declaring before the world as powerfully as we can the issues confronting schools , the preferred ways to handle them and the cultural, financial and regulatory issues that need to be addressed by policy makers." |
NDA's Student visits GermanyNDA junor, Astrid Floegel-Shetty, visited NDA's partner school in Vechta, Germany this past summer. "I spent approximately four weeks with the Strobel family, whose daughter, Alea Strobel, was a past exchange student at our school. She invited me into her home, family, and school; providing me with a unique glimpse into the "normal" German culture. I visited my guest sister's classes, Bremen University for a girls-only science workshop, and the cities of Hamburg and Würzburg. I've participted in the senior prank day (something along the lines of NDA day), partied at the Abi Ball (the equivalent to our prom), attended my first ever celebration of the 4th of July, and met students from our sister school in Ohio and others from New Zealand and Washington State University. All the things I mentioned are just a few of my memories from my whirlwind four week experience."
