Dear ,

News and Notes

* Over Easter vacation several of our students took in the amazing sights and food of Spain while others enjoyed the excitement and theater in New York City.

* Remember that summer is an excellent time to engage in your Christian Service projects! It's a great way for you to focus on a meaningful service experience and also an excellent way to facilitate your school year.

* Click on this link to view the two visits that our A.P. Art History, and drawing and painting students experienced at their visits to LACMA.  The A.P. Art History students toured the Japanese Pavilion and attended a sumi painting work shop.  Students also had the enriching experience of drawing in the galleries.

Season Wrap Up-

Softball

The NDA softball team under the leadership of first year head coach Brent Times has continued its dramatic improvement over last season with impressive victories over Marlborough and Marymount in league play. Going into the second round of league play, Marlborough was 3-1 and NDA, Marymount, Immmaculate Heart and Ramona Convent were all 2-2.

Strong pitching from Halie Times and Dillan Boada along with the great catching core of Erin Jones and Allison Bush has stablilized the team and have kept the Gryphons competitive in every game. Timely hitting and strong fielding from Elizabeth Frelinger, Gina Romano, Kyla Wenzel, Tyler Vicknair and Paige Kulberg has been invaluable to the team's success.

Swim

The NDA swim team continues to make impressive strides to become one of the elite programs in Division IV. The team completed the league schedule with 4 wins and 4 losses, two of the wins being against Marymount for the first time in a long time. Last year's Masters swimmer, Mary Kate Reid has remained undefeated in the league competition. Isabella Alario, Claire Gunderman, Isabella Craven, Theresa Le and Emily Tomchak continue to swim fast, underscoring their strong sense of teamwork.

Track

The NDA track team completed their league schedule with an overall record of 3 - 1 heading into the league champions April 30 and May 2nd. Among those wins was a 64-61 victory over Marlborough, a first since 2001.

The top seeded athletes heading into prelims from Notre Dame Academy are:

4 x 100 relay team

4 x 400 relay team

100 Meter Dash - Ugo Ogbunamiri, Torrie Mitchell

200 Meter Dash - Ugo Ogbunamiri

400 Meter Dash - Tahara Sandfield

100 Meter High Hurdles - Dayna Grundy, Francesca Caruncho

High Jump - Francesca Caruncho

Long Jump - Dayna Grundy, Torrie Mitchell

Triple Jump - Dayna Grundy

At the Mt. Sac Relays on April 21st, the team qualified for and competed in the 100 meter dash and both relays. Despite a late arrival, Ugo Ogbunamiri placed third in the 100 meter dash with a solid 12.30 second performance. The 4 x 100 meter relay followed with a solid 5th place finish in 49.93.

Best of luck during Championship Week.
