Soccer

Despite injuries to seven starters this season, the Regal Gryphon soccer team has climbed back up in the league standings. A victory over Immaculate Heart on Tuesday February 7 ensured a CIF play-off berth. NDA won a critical game against Marlborough at USC last week led by Kristen Rodriguez, Annie Cipiti, Maggie Miller, Julie Sanchez, Maya Gray and Michaela McDermott. Julie Sanchez scored the winning goal on a header. Look for upcoming play-off information on the athletic website. The JV team has been building momentum over the last few weeks and now is firmly in second place in the Sunshine League. The Regal Gryphons complete their season this week with back-to-back games against Ramona Convent and finish up against undefeated Marymount. Jourdhyn Williams has been stellar in goal, but it has been a total team effort that has helped the team forge ahead. |

Basketball
The Varsity basketball team heads into its final week of league play in second place with an overall record of 14 -9 and 4 - 2. A heartbreaking loss to Marlborough last week (51-50) forged a tie with Marlborough for second place. However, with a showdown against Marymount slated for Thursday, February 9, there could be a three way tie for first place. The team is led by high scorers Mary Kate Reid, Francesca Caruncho and Mallory Rawson but has received very strong play from Dayna Grundy, Liz McKinley, Kaylee Hage and Mari McCarthy. They have all put the team in a good position with the upcoming play-offs. Look for play-off information on the athletic website. The JV basketball team dropped its first league game last week at Marlborough but heads into the final week of play with an overall record of 13 - 4 and sits atop the Sunshine League with an overall record of 5 - 1. Delaney Smith, Sophia Costanzo, Nia Sanchez, Cam McDermott, Nichole Bloom and Eden Gebreyes have led with a spirited effort all season long. Strong play from Liz Ventresca, Mishka Caruncho, Katherine Irajpanah and Alysson Acosta helps make this team special to watch. |
