Spain Trip

During the Easter vacation Mrs. Caitriona Weafer, World Languages teacher, had the great pleasure of accompanying six NDA students on trip to Spain. They explored the Alhambra Palace, had Flamenco lessons from gypsies in a cave, and visited stunning Ronda that is surrounded by a big gorge and spectacular views. In Seville they cycled through the park to see the Plaza de España, climbed to the top of The Giralda Tower (once the tallest building in the world), and walked through the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world. Each place was stunning in its beauty. They saw the greatest examples of art, architecture and history in Córdoba, Madrid and Toledo. Thanks to all who made it happen!
Diane Rendon, Kaitlin Galonska, Alyxandra Rodriquez, Cassandra Ramirez, Valeria Casilas and Chloe-Symone Alvarado were a credit to NDA and have memories to last a lifetime.

Softball

The softball team heads into the final week of league play with important games against Marymount and Marlborough. Two NDA victories will force a three way tie for the final play-off spot. Lead by Gilly Childs and Betina Beringhele, the team sports an overall batting average of .312 and is averaging nearly eight runs per game. The final home game will be played on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Westchester Recreation Center. Swim
The Notre Dame Academy swim team surprised the league at the swim championships by winning the 200 yard Medley Relay in record time while just missing by hundredths of a second of repeating in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Junior Mary Kate Reid will represent NDA in the breaststroke and freshman Claire Gunderman will move on in the backstroke. Senior Grace Gunderman anchored both relay teams while also qualifying the in 500 yard freestyle. The swimmers advance and move up one full division to Division III on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Track and Field
The Notre Dame Academy Track & Field team performed well at league prelims and finals. Athletes qualified in every event for finals except the high jump. Sophomore Ugochi Ogbunamri is officially the fastest women in the Sunshine League by capturing the title with a blazing 12.15 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Ugochi also qualified for CIF by placing a close second in the 200 while running injured. Sophomore Dayna Grundy will be representing NDA at CIF in four events: 100 hurdles, long jump, triple jump and the anchor for the 4 x 100 meter relay team which earlier in the season broke the school record taking first place at the Mt. Sac Relays. Senior Veronique Davis took third in the shot put and sophomore Tahara Sandfield qualified for CIF as well as the 400 meter dash. CIF Prelims will be held at Carpinteria High School on Saturday, May 14, 2011 Click here to view the Track and Field Schedule |
