Sarah Shourd

sarah speaker

On July 31, 2009, Sarah Shourd was one of three Americans detained by Iranian border guards while hiking in Iraqi Kurdistan. Iran claims the three crossed into Iranian territory, but the three Americans claim they were kidnapped from within Iraq.

Sarah Emily Shourd, who grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from UC Berkeley, worked in education and for social justice in Damascus where she provided educational opportunities for refugees from the war in Iraq and taught English. Despite her good intentions and declarations of innocence, Shourd was detained in Iran until September 14, 2010.

Basketball

NDA's Basketball teams, both Junior Varsity and Varsity, are really becoming better players and are gelling as a team. Varsity has been plagued by sickness and injury of post players Mary Kate Reid and Lauren Hage. Varsity still holds a 10-7 record overall with the team being 2-3 for league play.  With four games left in the season, Varsity is determined to qualify for play-offs.

The young Junior Varsity team is developing nicely with an overall record of 9-5 and a league record of 3-2. Way to go Regal Gryphons!

 Basketball Schedule

Soccer

Junior Varsity is now 4-1-1 in League, with two wins against Ramona and two wins and a tie with Marlborough. After a slow start, the girls are really coming together, working hard and getting results that were considered impossible at the beginning of the season. Under the tutelage of Coach James Tonner, they have three games left in season.

Varsity is also doing extremely well, after a very slow start mainly due to a lot of injuries. The girls are now 10-5-2, with a 4-1-1 record in Sunshine League that puts them in first place with two games to go. Now that their roster is fully healthy, the girls are extremely tough to score on (no goals against in the last three games and only two in the last five).

Noteworthy results were the recent wins for 1-0 to a talented Ramona Convent, 4-1 and 2-0 wins to Marlborough, a 2-0 win with IMAC and 1-1 tie with Marymount.
