October is finally here!  This is the time of year that we all look forward to.  The temperature is cooling off and slowly relaxing the headlock that it had on our AC units and our budgets since June; and the fall bowling leagues are heating up.

As the headline suggests, October is a festive time of the year with ample opportunity to create buzz (read revenue) for savvy bowling center owners and operators.  Admittedly, although it makes a great headline, I couldn't think of any ideas creative enough to warrant an endorsement of beer-swilling men wearing lederhosen.

lederhosen

There are, however, two other, more family-friendly holidays this month.  Below are some of my ideas that may help get your creative juices flowing so that you can jump start your fourth quarter.
 Columbus Day
Christopher Columbus
While most of us don't often recognize, much less celebrate, Columbus Day, it is recognized by most of our government agencies, municipalities and schools (Hawaii and South Dakota have replaced it with other celebrations). As the name suggests, it is a day to celebrate Christopher Columbus' arrival in America.

Columbus Day is observed on the second Monday in October.  Although there is no traditional celebration, many schools and some businesses will be closed.  Check with your local school districts.  This may be a great opportunity to drive business on a typically slow Monday!
Halloween
Scream Bowling Ball
This one is a no brainer!  Of course you're going to have a costume contest... And of course your employees are going to dress up and hand out candy and play creepy music all night. I just wanted to mention a couple of things that may get overlooked as you are coming off of the summer lull.

Halloween typically has an early crowd and a late crowd.  Be prepared for both.  What I mean by that is, WHEN you have your costume contest, don't have just one.  Every center will be different so there is no set number.

Remember your target clientele when you are scheduling your Halloween fun and games.  Be sure to keep everything age appropriate.

Halloween is on a Monday!  This gives you another opportunity to drive business on a usually slow night.
Quick Tip
Fire Safety
Fires from the kitchen and snack bar areas have been on the rise.  Make sure that all of your fire suppression equipment and extinguishers are in compliance with regulations, and be sure that all of you employees know what to do in the event of a fire.

These are easy things to control, and by doing so, you can better protect your business as well as the people inside of it.

*Health Insurance Available*

We can now offer health insurance plans for your full and part-time employees!  In addition, we can also assist with your disability, life insurance and dental needs.
