Graystone Award

Keohane Earns

Graystone

Satisfaction Award

Graystone Associates recently announced that Keohane Funeral & Cremation Services is the recipient of their Funeral Service Research Group's 2010 Graystone Award for Overall Satisfaction - Single Location.

Graystone Associates is a prestigious association that reviews a funeral home's performance by both on-site evaluation and family satisfaction surveys.  They carefully assess how well a funeral home is serving families by asking for comments on all aspects of service provided before, during, and after the actual funeral.  Keohane's involvement in this process is a key part of their commitment to ensure that the families they serve are getting what they need most during a difficult time.

More than 275 funeral homes in the USA and Canada were evaluated - from 26 states and 2 provinces.  All together these funeral homes service 60,000 families per year.  More than 30,000 family-completed surveys were submitted to Graystone which were used in their final review and judging.

Scott Newton, a principal at Graystone Associates said, "The Keohane family and staff's commitment to consistently delivering exceptional client family satisfaction has yet again earned them a top place among their peers.  When compared to other industry leading family owned funeral homes, the Keohane Funeral Home was a top 5 performing firm on client satisfaction when measured against their colleagues."

"We are so pleased to have earned the Graystone Award for Overall Satisfaction," said John Keohane.   "At Keohane Funeral & Cremation Services, we have a strong commitment to our families and our community.  This award means a lot to each one of the staff and we will display it proudly," added Dennis Keohane.

John Comer

  Introducing John Comer

  Funeral Director

John Comer is a new face at Keohane Funeral Home, but he isn't new to Quincy or to Keohane's either!  John was born and raised in Quincy and remembers attending funerals for both his grandparents at Keohane's.  In fact, when John was a young boy, he thought about funeral service as a career.  He was always curious about funeral service - he says, "I was mesmerized by it and wanted to know how everything worked."

John has been a licensed funeral director for more than 15 years, and joined Keohane Funeral Home in May.  John explained, "I started out studying restaurant and hotel management at Johnson & Wales College in Rhode Island.  But ... I kept thinking about funeral service.  It was a challenge, making a career change after being married and starting a family.  But I knew that was where I belonged."  John graduated from the Funeral Institute of the Norheast in Norwood where he earned his certification as a funeral director.

"I enjoy meeting people and helping them at what is probably the most difficult time of their lives.  At Keohane Funeral Home I'm meeting families from the South Shore and from the area where I grew up."

John has been married to his wife Peggy for 17 years in September. They have two children, Meaghan (15) and Brendan (13).  "Yes, two teenagers!  A wonderful thing!" he says.  They live in Holbrook which is just 15 minutes from Quincy.  Peggy works in the Holbrook School System as a paraprofessional.

John has few hobbies - "I am really a family man; I enjoy spending time with my family.  I am a member of the Randolph Lodge of Elks and a sports fan.  I love the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, and of course, the Bruins!"  Peggy, John, and the family love to travel and to meet people.  They recently traveled to Ireland to visit with Peggy's family in County Galway.  "I guess I'm just a people-person," said John.

"Stop in to say hello to John Comer," says Ed Keohane.  "You will like John; he has a most friendly personality with compassion and empathy that families need and appreciate."

Harbor Illumination 2
Third Year for Harbor

Illumination in Hull

The end of July Harbor Illumination this year was the most spectacular ever with brightly lit flares stretching from the island side of Spinnaker Island Bridge all the way to the very tip of the A Street Pier!

The afternoon included a variety of activities, highlighted by the performance of Toilers of the Sea - the Life of Joshua James by the Hull Performing Arts at Fort Revere.  Area businesses sold flares to those wishing to donate for the benefit of the Hull Lifesaving Museum and at nightfall, people lined the harbor to witness the lighting of the flares which extended further than ever before to create a beautiful and serene moment of celebration and personal remembrance.

"Keohane Funeral Home is proud to be one of the sponsors of this magnificent tribute," said Dennis Keohane.  "We enjoy this event and look forward to it each year."

Keohane Garden 2011

  Harvest Helpers

  in Full Swing

For the second year, Keohane Funeral Home partnered with Interfaith Social Services to implement Harvest Helpers, a program to provide families in need with fresh and nutritious  produce at the Interfaith Food Pantry in Quincy.  The garden at Keohane Funeral Home is bursting with tomatoes, green peppers, beans, cucumbers, zuchinni, and herbs.

"We are happy to be able to help the Food Pantry not only feed, but nourish people with healthy, home-grown produce, "said John Keohane.

"Our vegetable garden is tended by our staff," explained Joe Reardon, director of advance planning at Keohane Funeral Home.  "It is a fun activity that all of us have been involved in.  It is the natural and sensible way to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need.  We want to especially thank the Wollaston Garden Club, The Sea Side Gardeners in Squantum, and the Center Farmers Market for their help in distributing free plants to gardeners who joined with us this year to grow produce for the Food Pantry."

John Keohane added, "Gardeners wishing to donate produce to the Food Pantry can do so by contacting Rick Doane at the Food Pantry (617-773-6203) to arrange a drop-off."
