This newsletter not only is sent out to serve as a reminder of our upcoming meeting on this Tuesday, May 10, but as a great big Happy Mother's Day greeting to all of our mothers out there. Dr. Richard Swier speaks at May Meeting

 Research Help Needed I have just been made aware of another government issue that requires our vigilance. It has to do with the 50,000+ government entities and their CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report). Understanding the impact of this information is going to require more than my limited time and knowledge. I would like to have some volunteers, especially those with accounting and/or legal backgrounds, who could help dig into this issue a little deeper. The impetus for this comes from CAFR1.com. Thanks to Julie (our librarian and go-to-girl for tons of information) for getting this info to me.  Ryan Budget - Pathway to Prosperity There are so many issues that are of utmost importance to our nation and even to our national survival, that it seems impossible to pick A most important. However, if there is, it would have to be the budget. If we become bankrupt as a nation, other issues will pale in comparison. I have been studying the Budget proposal made by Congressman Paul Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee. It has the backing of many conservatives. I am putting together a presentation to help us understand it. I believe we have to understand it before we can either support or oppose it. Here is a great and simple presentation by the Heritage Foundation explaining our budget and debt situation using the example of an HOA (Home Owner Association). |
