...Here is a personal message from Bob Bacon, one of our TOCB founders whom you elected to be a fire district commissioner.
Everyone in Englewood- Your taxes are about to be raised and taken from you permantently every year that can not be changed. collecting 4% interst. There is not enough money in the pension account funded at 61%. Do the math- theBattalion Chiefs currently makes from ( 1) $81,574.11 to ( 2 ) $84779.34 at 22 years now. If that person retired he would collect $3260.74 every 2 weeks continuing to work. All 3 chiefs have 22 years longevity and here is the kicker The pension board got approved this 3.5% of pay a year times 22 Years, which is 77 % of their pay. That means that person gets a retirement check of $5440.02 monthly for 60 months in his account which totals $326,401.20 plus 4% additional money compounded until he leaves at the end of his 5th retirement DROP year. So the day he leaves employmnet he gets a check for $326,401.20 plus interest and a monthly retirement check for life $6521.48. This is not right and needs to be defeated. Myself and Jeff Kern are fighting to defeat this. Once the Pension board votes to present it and it is presented to be approved by the Commission, it can not be changed if approved. If a fireman works for 25 years he would stay til he finishes 30 years and get 87.5% of his pay gross. I,m Bob Bacon an elected Fire Contol Distict Commissioner. At the last meeting on 9th of March the Fire Pension Board presented a program to give retiring fireman more money. They call it the DROP program (Deferred Retirement Option Plan). The plan gives the option for the retiree to retire 5 years early, work at his current postion and continue to get paid as usual for 5 more years. The funds from the pension would be paid to the retirees' pension account monthly to be dolded out to him at the end of the 5 years, while his account is This fire dept is paying firemen more that any other fire dept in the area. In the detail it is even worse but is hard to explain. I need the troops out in force at 8:45am on 3-23-2011 to voice their opposition to thispresentation. It is our tax dollars being spent that can not be changed. Call everyone you know to be there.
The meeting is at the Fire station at
