OK, I must confess right off the bat that I went to bed and woke up less happy than I wanted to be. I really, really, really wanted Dingy Harry gone. However, as my mind begins to take control of my emotions, I have to say we definitely have participated in an historic event. We have known all along that this election was only a first step - battle field triage as I have described it. Maybe if we had swept both House and Senate, we might have gotten complacent and we cannot afford to be complacent anymore. We had amazing positive results last night. All of our Florida state and national and county candidates won. (In case you haven't yet heard, Sink has conceded and Scott is the Governor - happened about 10:30AM.) Our local candidates Bob Bacon and Peter Watson won on the Englewood Fire District Board.
The U.S. House of Representatives has had an historic shift to the right. The Senate is almost evenly split. Marco Rubio said it well last night when he said (I am paraphrasing here) it is a mistake to assume that the victory of last night was a Republican victory - it was a victory for us who want to stand up for our founding principles. I am extremely proud to be associated with a group of people who have stood for the principles that have made our country great. We have proven that multitudes of individuals standing together because of shared principles can make a huge difference. We will soon see our billboard updated and you will see three changes - across the top will be the words "Can you hear us now?" and just below that it will say "...and we are not going away!" and the dated changed to November 5, 2012.
Don't miss our next meeting, Tuesday 11/9. We will lay out some strategic plans and places where we can plug in for our next phase - the phase of holding our representatives' feet to the fire and consolidating gains further both by supporting good candidates in the next election and in helping redeem the hearts and minds of both young and old alike to the principles of our founding.
God bless you and God bless America! Randy
