GRATEFUL FOR GIFTS OF OTHERS...
Oft' times others show up in our lives in ways that appear to focus on them for their own sake. From a spiritual perspective, however, what catches our attention in others really is a spiritual message speaking symbolically to something we have denied about ourselves. What follows is a brief piece on how the so-called Indigo Children serve that very purpose: to make us aware of our own gifts, so we can then use them for the good of the Universe.
The Real Indigo Children
Just for starters, here's what so-called Indigo children look like from a commonly circulated description. Generally speaking, Indigo Children:
Have strong self-esteem and connection to source
Have an obvious sense of self
Have difficulty with discipline and authority
Refuse to follow orders or directions when they are counter to their own sense of things
Get frustrated by ritual-oriented systems that require little creativity
Often see better ways of doing things at home and at school
Are mostly nonconformists
Do not respond to guilt trips, want good reasons
Get bored rather easily with assigned tasks
Are very creative
Are easily distractable
Display strong intuition
Have strong empathy for others for whom others have no empathy
Are abstract thinkers
Are gifted and/or talented, highly intelligent
Are often identified or suspected of having ADD or ADHD, yet can focus when they want to
Are talented daydreamers and visionaries
Have very old, deep, wise looking eyes
Have spiritual intelligence and/or psychic skills
Need our support to stay aware of themselves
Are here to change the world--to help us live in greater harmony and peace with one another and to raise the vibration of the planet
If we look at these characteristics from the vantage point of ego consciousness, we could easily determine that anyone possessing a large majority of them would be justified labeling themselves as an Indigo Child, thereby making themselves seem quite special--perhaps even in ways they never dreamed possible. As I look at the list, however, I see everybody as Indigo Children, each demonstrating many of these characteristics in their very own way. It's undeniable, only you might not think so. That's where the "rub" comes in.
By establishing this part of the population as "special" in some very important ways, it leaves those who don't see these characteristics in themselves feeling somewhat "less than good enough" again. Or parents could take false pride in their children, without acknowledging the same traits in themselves.
Additionally, it is said the Indigo Children have come to the planet to "save us" from the ways of ego consciousness. That's not the actual phraseology used; those who talk about their purpose would say the Indigo Children are here to reverse the negative lifestyle we now live in, so the planet can be saved. I'd like to establish a little foundation for a differing viewpoint, and I'll begin with this.
The color indigo is one attributed to the sixth chakra, the energetic wheel more commonly referred to as the "third eye," which corresponds to our intuitional center, from which we become enlightened. The third eye is the connection to the Truth residing within each of us, the connection with the divine consciousness that gives spiritual order to our lives. So, symbolically at least, the name chosen for this group of young people represents those who live primarily through intuitional vision, an inner sense of what is right for them and the world.
A strong case can be made for all of us having the same capacity for exercising intuition as the focal point for activating Life. It's just that many, predominantly men in Western culture, have come to believe they are to use raw intellect and rational, linear thinking instead of intuition. In my view, the current conversation about the Indigo children is about making us all aware of our inherent capacity for using intuition as our primary access to inner Truth.
We are told that as the Indigo Children grow up and have families of their own, their combined brilliance and righteousness will govern us. From a metaphysical framework, divine consciousness is the sum total of all of Source's attributes. As we look at the characteristics above, we certainly could include all of them in the divine consciousness realm, even those dealing with discontent of some kind. As we come into fuller awareness of all we are, of course we'd feel discontent with what ego and collective consciousness regularly posits as the way for us. And standing in line, being bored with assigned tasks, and frustrated with ritual-oriented systems would go against the grain of our own Truth, which we can find easily within--and without ritual, having to figure out things, and waiting in line for anything.
This being the case, the Indigo Children and their successors, the Crystal Children, serve as mirrors for the image and likeness of Source we all are, yet still don't quite believe we are. We remain skeptical, looking for "outward signs," those erroneous beliefs and opinions we have characteristically used to validate and affirm ourselves, instead of going within for the Truth of the matter.
Therefore, the primary--that is, spiritual-- purpose of the Indigo Children is not to eventually govern and save us from the current dismal planetary situation in which we find ourselves. Their primary purpose is to act as mirrors for the rest of us, so eventually--hopefully soon--we will become aware of these divine characteristics or attributes as our own, and live from them instead of believing in what others have told us we are or must become. When we become more aware, we will likely come to this conclusion: our inner Truth is the real government and what we are to follow. When we reach this newfound stage, we will no longer put up with the fear, ineptitude, prejudice, separation, difference, and the other debilitating elements we find in ego consciousness. And the planet will be much better for our awareness, especially as we demonstrate it.
This metaphysical conclusion leads us to a further validation of the "mirroring" service we provide for one another. All we see outside us is but a mirror or metaphor for the consciousness we're creating our life with in any given moment. What's being mirrored by the Indigo and Crystal Children is the larger part of the true relationship with the One and only: divine or spiritual consciousness. The consciousness we connect with as we are aware of intuition's still, small voice...
Thus, the focus of these children is to perform a wake-up call. They reflect the potential for becoming increasingly aware of divine consciousness, which brings spiritual order to Life by adhering to the Truth of our inner Wisdom instead of the false images we have come to believe about ourselves. Surely, it will open the way for the path previously less taken--to become the new trail blazed for one and all.
Thank you, Indigo Children, for demonstrating your calling so very well!
