Dear friends.
With the advent of springtime and the change to Daylight Saving Time, and with it being the Easter Season in parts of the world, we are setting the tone for change in many aspects of our lives. During the winter months, we're much like animals in their hibernation stage, just waiting for spring so we can venture out into new lands, with new ideas and commitments. And the flowers push their way out of the soil, reaching ever so gallantly toward light, wanting nothing but to be what they are, fulfilled simply as gifts to the world. Why is it we're the only species that thinks we need to be more, or at least different, than the gift we already are to the Universe? When we let up and permit grace to rule, joy abounds, opening the door to unimaginable reaches, new relationships and movement to places and spaces that stretch us beyond our imagination. And so life anew begins. I welcome you to the next chapter in your life's story. Spread your wings and fly!
Warmest regards, Jim

chocolate fix? |
The Rules of Chocolate
If
you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly.
Chocolate
covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit,
so eat as many as you want.
The
problem: How to get two pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car.
The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.
Diet
tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal.
It'll take the edge off your appetite and you'll eat less.
A
nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one
place. Isn't that handy?
If
you can't eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can't
eat all your chocolate, what's wrong with you?
If
calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are
afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect
themselves.
Money
talks. Chocolate sings.
Chocolate
has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.
Why
is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous?
Because no one wants to quit.
Put
"eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That
way, at least you'll get one thing done.
Chocolate
is a health food. Chocolate is derived from cacao beans. Bean = vegetable.
Sugar is derived either from sugar beets or cane, both vegetables. And, of
course, the milk/cream is dairy. So eat more chocolate to meet the dietary
requirements for daily vegetable and dairy intake.
GO FOR IT!

A WORD OF CAUTION...
In no way do I wish you to take anything I say as gospel. My only interest is to use what comes to me--be it story, humor, or other inspired words--as ways of encouraging and supporting you to be open to other perspectives about life, so you may go inward to assess their value to you. Listening inward is the only way we find the Truth we are to live, that is, if we are looking to live spiritually, and want to bring spiritual order to our lives. If you have a way that works better for you, then by all means, stick with it. No matter what, I lovingly support you on your way...
Lovingly, Jim

Saving the
Easter Bunny
A
man was blissfully driving along the highway, when he saw the Easter
Bunny
hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the
Bunny,
but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of his car and was hit. The
basket
of eggs went flying all over the place.
The
driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to
the
side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the Bunny
carrying the
basket. Much to his dismay, the colorful Bunny was dead. The driver felt
guilty
and began to cry.
A
woman driving down the same highway saw the man crying on the side of
the road
and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was
wrong.
"I
feel terrible," he explained, "I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny
and killed it. There may not be an Easter because of me. What should I
do?"
The
woman told the man not to worry. She knew exactly what to do. She went
to her
car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead
Bunny,
and sprayed the entire contents of the can onto the little furry animal.
Miraculously
the Easter Bunny came to back life, jumped up, picked up the spilled
eggs and
candy, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped on down the road. 50
yards
away the Easter Bunny stopped, turned around, waved and hopped on down
the road
another 50 yards, turned, waved, hopped another 50 yards and
waved again!
The man was astonished. He said to the woman, "What in heaven's
name is in your spray can? What was it that you sprayed on the Easter
Bunny?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the
label. It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent
wave."

SPROUTS OF SPRINGTIME...
Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the
morning yawn. ~Quoted by Lewis Grizzard in Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I
Love You
Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams
Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener
seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer. ~Geoffrey B.
Charlesworth
April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go.
~Christopher Morley, John Mistletoe
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind
blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
~Charles Dickens
Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of
colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the
night. ~Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters of Rainer Maria Rilke
It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got
it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want,
but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain
Hoe while it is spring, and enjoy the best anticipations. It is not
much matter if things do not turn out well. ~Charles Dudley Warner
Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!

A FACET OF EASTER FROM A SYMBOLIC PERSPECTIVE...
Many people take Scripture, like life, literally--whatever "floats your boat." Scriptural scholars and shamans alike tell us that Scripture also offers us symbolic meaning. Symbolic meaning pertains to our relationship with spiritual guidance, our communion with the still, small voice that speaks only inward. During the Easter Season, Christians are especially drawn to the life and times of Jesus. Regardless of our religious convictions, all of us can learn much from this emphasis as a way of starting life anew, especially as we are reminded about the newness of life so beautifully and plentifully displayed come springtime. Let's look at but one example of how Scripture discerned symbolically can open the eyes and heart to similar new beginnings.
There's a moment in Scripture when
Jesus told the Apostles that he would soon be leaving them; he must do so, he
says, but they needn't be afraid, for he will provide for them a new Source simply by leaving. Actually, Jesus had
taught the Apostles how to access the inner Source all along, but the Apostles kept relying
on him for their answers instead.
Sound familiar? We, too,
rely often on others for our answers, our identity, our validation, and for praise; on it
goes. What Jesus was saying to the
Apostles is that they are not to rely on any
outer source--not even him, Jesus-for to do so is to miss the voice of
Christ consciousness that informs each of us about our individual walk among
our brethren. You see, life
becomes very simple when we do just one single thing, live from just one single
Source, abide one Truth only-and that single Source,Truth, is found only inward. And when we do so, we not only follow the same voice Jesus and other spiritually enlightened beings have followed, but we, like Jesus and them, provide loving example to others that also empowers them to do the very same--to live spiritually, to love completely, to serve Truth faithfully.
I urge you to look inward and see where you have
already begun this simple way of living.
Find times when you have gone inward to find your Truth and followed
only it. Find times when you have followed your intuition rather than meeting an ego need. Find times when you heard the still, small voice prompt you during meditation--and know that you are well on the spiritual path Soul calls you to follow. I have full confidence that you do so more than you are aware, and I applaud you for doing so!
On this glorious Easter Sunday, no matter what our religious beliefs--even if we claim none--let us commit to reach only inward for our guidance; to reinforce the glorious path
of being at One with our Truth by personal example. Let us refrain from personal crucifixion by listening to the
still, small voice for moment-to-moment direction. Let us resurrect ourselves by living anew, much like the
flowers that reach to the heavens for the light and warmth that will nourish
them into the fullness of the gift they are. The same is true for us: let us reach to the heavens within us--the
One True Source--for enlightenment and spiritual nourishment, that we may be the
fullness of the gift we each are to the Universe. Happy Resurrection!
And so it is...
