ANNOUNCEMENTS

Outdoor Maintenance    Our next outdoor clean-up is scheduled for July 10th at 9:00AM.  Please join us. Bring brooms, rakes, etc.

YUU(Younger UUs)have planned a camping trip August 20th - August 22nd 2010, and we want you to come with us!  We will be camping at Pinckney Recreation Area, about one hour from metro Detroit, in the Crooked Lake Campground.  The campground is rustic one with no electricity, vault toilets, and water from a pump.  There are miles of hiking trails, a lake good for canoeing and kayaking, a swimming beach and sand volleyball courts.  Children are welcome.

The cost is $32/site for the weekend plus parking, but sites hold up to two tents and four people each so if we plan right the cost should be between $8-10 per person. Parking is $6/day or $24 for an annual pass if you don't already have one.  There's a limit of two cars per camp site.

We must have a count of confirmed campers by July 11th in order to reserve enough camp sites.

Important Note: Sunday, August 22nd is also the date of the NWUU summer picnic, but with August being such a busy month, it was still the best date.  Since we have to be off the camp sites by noon anyway, we're hoping that anyone who wants to do both still will.

We are looking forward to camping with you!  Please contact Scott Sanderson to make your reservation.  He can be reached at 248-345-0902.

NWUUC at St. Leo's Soup Kitchen on July 31.
NWUU Church will be providing hot and sack lunches to about 200 people at the St. Leo Soup Kitchen on Saturday, July 31.  The soup kitchen is located in the lower level of the St. Leo Catholic Church on Grand River Ave. one block south of Warren in Detroit.  We arrive at about 9:30 a.m. to carry the supplies downstairs and to begin preparing the hot and sack lunches.  This has been a community effort as well as a church effort with people of all ages taking part.
There are many ways that you can be a part of this important service:

PREPARE AND SERVE FOOD Join the people that go to St. Leo's to prepare and serve the lunches.  The hot lunches are served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

BAKE BROWNIES     Bake the brownies and take them to St. Leo's on July31, or give them to the B.D.S. in the NWUUC parking lot at 8:30a.m. on Saturday or give them to someone who is going to St. Leo's.  Boxes of brownie mix will be provided for those who volunteer for this task.  If you can't be at NW to pick up the brownie mix, use your own and it will be replaced.  Call Charlotte Pozniak (248-357-2299) to let her know that you will be baking brownies unless you received them from her at church.

VOLUNTEER DRIVER     Some people would like to work at St. Leo's, but are unable to drive there. You can arrange the place to meet.

SIGN UP     If you can't be at the church to sign up you can do so by contacting Ray Keeling at 248-685-2564 or at eason343@att.com.

SPECIAL COLLECTION     A special collection will be needed to purchase the supplies.  It will be held during the service on July 25.
