Capsaicin and HIV

One 30-minute application of a capsaicin (8%) patch can reduce neuropathic pain due to HIV-associated neuropathy (HIV-AN), according to data presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, in National Harbor, MD.

David Simpson, MD,  Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York NY and Scientific Advisory Board member of FPN, and co-author of the findings, said, "A significant percentage of patients are able to control their neuropathic pain from HIV-AN. There's no one magic bullet across human medicine that has 100% success, but the data from this study [show] a fair majority of our patients could do things they could not do before because they've reduced the pain."

FPN - In the News Dianne Jones

The idea of riding across America takes on a whole new perspective when you are lead rider on a tandem bicycle with a disabled person in the front seat. Dominic Gill, British adventurer, and Universal Sports created a video series of this very trip. From California to New York City, Gill and 10 disabled riders crossed the country - 4,000 miles!

One of those riders was Dianne Gill, of Barrington, Illinois. A PN sufferer for 25 years, Dianne has trouble keeping her balance; her feet and legs are numb and tingling.

The Chicago Daily Herald ran a story about Dianne's participation in the ride over the weekend. Dianne rode from Chicago to Cleveland with her husband Doug at her side, a total of 400 miles.

With references to FPN and the work that we do, the article brings awareness of PN and the impact it has on daily activities. Dianne's story will serve as an inspiration to all who live with the reality of peripheral neuropathy or any disability.
