Seventh Grade Explores the Grand Canyon!

The 7th graders spent an amazing week in the Grand Canyon! They had one opportunity after another to experience the beauty and wonder of the outdoors. The weather was perfect for the many adventuGrand Canyonres that included: hiking in Sedona, biking, rafting down the Colorado River, rock climbing and playing in a nature-made water slide! The learning was endless as they hiked to Montezuma castle and visited ancient Indian ruins and lava fields. As we floated down the Colorado River the guides were there to explain the geology of the area and describe the many layers of the Grand Canyon. They learned much about the two major Indian Tribes in the area, the Navajo and the Hopi and the struggles for land and food that still go on today. It was an awesome week!

8th Grade DC/New York Trip 2012

"Ugh! 4:30 a.m. at LAX--are you kidding me?"That was the reaction of our 25 eighth graders when they found out the itinerary for the DC trip.  But, all complaints aside, we met at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 13th and set out on our journey. The plane landed in Virginia, and we spent some time in8th Grade Travel #1 Williamsburg imagining life in colonial times. Our bus then took us to DC where we toured the many famous sites and monuments. The ASB Presidents, Sabrina T. and Nick C., also participated in a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.  On Thursday morning, we headed for the "Big Apple", where we experienced first hand the hustle and bustle of the city.  The new 9/11 Memorial was inspiring and the Top of the Rock gave us a spectacular view of the entire city.  On Thursday night we attended the Broadway show, "Memphis"--a rocking and rolling musical that everyone enjoyed.  After a stroll through Central Park and a little shopping on 5th Avenue, we were on our way to JFK and back to L.A.  The class of 2012 will remember this trip for a lifetime!
