Eighth Grade Overnight "Bonding Trips"

Boys' Trip Pictures

Girls' Trip Pictures

(Sorry, Girls...I will get all the other pics next week!)

For the past three years the eighth grade students have gone on an overnight "bonding" trip. This year the girls spent the day together bonding over, of course...shopping at the mall!  The boys roughed it and went...camping!  This trip is a valuable memory for them as they complete their last year here at Fairmont and move on to high school.  Many of our students have been here since they were 2 1/2 years old!

Boys' trip highlights from Junior High teacher, Ken Cornell:

The general purpose of the trip is to help build and strengthen relationships between the boys by giving them a common positive shared experience.  8th Grade BoysSimilar in a way to bonds formed in combat.  The activities include setting up camp, a treasure hunt, softball game, soccer game, free time with badminton, volleyball, miniature golf, horseshoes, frisbee golf, card games, bean bag toss and more.  Friday night is roasting hot dogs over the campfire, hide and seek in the dark, s'mores, and just time to sit and relax by the campfire. There is fishing early Saturday morning, followed by a huge eggs, pancakes, and bacon breakfast that is cooked by some of the boys.  More free time for games, culminating in a survivor-like competition between teachers and students, which the teachers won (barely) for the third year in a row.

Girls' trip highlights:

The girls had a wonderful trip with the Brea Mall being the first destination 8th Grade Girlsfor shopping and lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.  The girls had so much fun trying on dresses in every store and modeling them for each other.  There were lots of purchases and treats for everyone.  After six hours at the mall the girls headed off to the "Monaco Mansion" in Orange.  The 'guest house' was absolutely amazing and the girls all could not believe they were spending the night together in such a luxurious and expansive property.  After a delicious spaghetti dinner (homemade by Mrs. Sturman!) the girls all settled in for a night of movies and stories.  Everyone had a wonderful time and truly will hold the memories of this weekend as a highlight of their last year at Fairmont!
