Denim Day

News & Announcements News

Lee National Denim DayDenim Day 3
Thank you so very much to Marci Shaffer (1st grade teacher) and Kristin Davtyan (parent of Norah and Emory) for organizing our annual "Lee National Denim Day."  These wonderful ladies have been touched by breast cancer in their families and organize this event with love every year.  This year they raised $2880 for breast cancer research.  Thank you to all of our students and parents for supporting this effort.  PINK was the color of the day!

Parent Teacher Conferences
Conference Day is Friday, October 21 and your child's teacher will be contacting you to schedule your conference. October is Parent Teacher Conference Month, so if your schedule does not allow you to come on October 21, please arrange another time during this month. Make the most of your Parent Teacher conference with these tips from our blog.

Pre-School Parking Lot
Just as a reminder: From 7:00 am - 4:00 pm the front parking lot is for preschool parents ONLY.  If you have an elementary/junior high student, you may use the EAST parking lot, the Junior High entrance, or the drive-through on the WEST side of the building.

Cougar Coffee

Please join us on Friday, October 28th for a nice cup of Starbucks Coffee!  We have our "Cougar Coffee" on the last Friday of every month, and look forward to sharing a few moments with all our parents.  Preschool parents don't forget to join us on the EAST side basketball court.

Family Pumpkin Patch

The FPA will be hosting the "Family Pumpkin Patch" on Monday, October 24 from 3:00pm-6:30pm.  There will be over 600 pumpkins in our 'patch' on the basketball court!  Please come out with your child and pick out a cute pumpkin for only $5.00.  Join us for some fun and yummy treats too!

Halloween Costumes

As you begin shopping for your child's Halloween costume, please keep in mind that we do not allow scary/gory masks of any kind, no weapons (swords, guns, etc), and no horror costumes.  We have many young children at school and ask that you be aware of them while shopping.

School Picture Re-Take Day

Lifetouch will be here on Wednesday, October 26 if you missed the first picture day or if you would like your child to have their picture re-taken.  If your child is having their picture re-taken you will need to send the ORIGINAL picture package that you received.  Please make sure your child wears the proper picture day attire.

Figure it out -mathematically!
Read

Student A reads 20 minutes five nights every week; Student B reads only 4 minutes a night.......or not at all

Step 1: Multiply minutes per night X 5 times each week.

Student A reads 20 minutes X 5 times each week = 100 mins./week

Student B reads 4 minutes X 5 times a week = 20 minutes

Step 2: Multiply minutes per week X 4 weeks each month.
Student A reads 400 minutes a month.

Student B reads 80 minutes a month.

Step 3: Multiply minutes a month X 9 months/school year.

Student A reads 3,600 minutes a school year.
Student B reads 720 minutes a school year.

Student A practices reading the equivalent of ten whole school days a year.

Student B gets the equivalent of only two school days of reading practice.

By the end of 6th grade, if Student A and Student B maintain these same reading habits, Student A will have read the equivalent of 60 whole school days. Student B will have read the equivalent of only 12 school days. One would expect the gap of information retained will have widened considerably and so,
undoubtedly, will school performance.

How do you think Student B will feel about himself/herself as a student?

Some questions to ponder:
Which student would you expect to read better?
Which student would you expect to know more?
Which student would you expect to write better?
Which student would you expect to have a better vocabulary?
Which student would you expect to be more successful in school.....and in life?

The lesson? READ!
