Junior High Art Project - Wyland Mural Contest
Nineteen Jr. High students are busy painting a mural for The Wyland Classroom Mural Contest. Only 150 schools were selected by the Wyland Foundation to receive a 5' x 10' canvas, paints and brushes. Students drew pictures of seals, star fish, dolphins, turtles, and other sea life and each will take a turn painting. The project should be finished in a couple weeks. |
Pointillism
Pointillism was developed in France, and it is when pure dots of paint are applied to canvas. When viewed from a distance, the dots seem to merge and create new colors.
Mrs. DuClos' 2-8th graders are creating a pointillism of French Impressionist painter, Georges Seurat's, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of Grande Jatte" painting. The students are using 'dots' of colored paper. Mrs. DuClos is taking 'weekly' picutres of the progress of this project, so please stop by the art room and check out this very fun "masterpiece"!

Book Report
One of our amazing librarian, Sandee Harmon's favorite books is "The Giving Tree" by Shel SilversteinHere is her review of the book...check it out! In this classic story about love and kindness, an apple tree befriends a small boy. He comes every day to play under her branches, climb her trunk and eat her apples. The boy loves the tree and she loves him in return. As the boy grows older, he comes less often and when he does come he always wants something from the tree.
Displaying a never-ending generosity of spirit, the tree always gives whatever she can to the boy she loves without question. The simple gift of giving to someone she loves brings her joy. The boy's visits become less frequent and his demands grow greater. The boy finally returns as an old man and the tree has nothing left to give. In the end they find a way to make one another happy unconditionally. RL 2.6 0.5 pts.
