Critical City Council Meeting for West End Avenue;
Your Presence is Essential!

THIS IS IT! After more than two years of community meetings and public hearings, the final vote to confirm the landmark designation of the Riverside-West End Historic District Extension I (the first of three extensions anchored by West End Avenue) is just days away.  LANDMARK WEST! only just today received confirmation that this item would be discussed at the next stated meeting of the City Council, occurring this Thursday.  The moment we knew, we hit "send" on this important alert to you!

WHO:  Full 51-member New York City Council

             WHAT:
Final Public Meeting to consider the
                           Riverside-West End HD Extension I

            WHEN:
THIS THURSDAY, October 11, at approx. 2PM*

*This can be a moving target, depending on the pacing of earlier items

and this item's placement on the agenda. If we receive any further

indication about when this issue is anticipated to be discussion,

we'll spread word!  Generally speaking, patience and flexibility of

                                   schedule are key!

          WHERE:
City Hall / click here for map with location

This meeting is open to the public, but NO TESTIMONY will be permitted.  Because of this, showing your "silent support" as a member of the gallery is critical.  By our overwhelming presence, we can demonstrate that preservation of our neighborhoods is a priority.

To date, all three West End Avenue historic district extensions (of which this is the first to be heard by City Council) have received overwhelming support at public hearings -- by the West Side community, by the many elected officials whose constituents reside in the extensions, and by our city-wide preservation colleagues. We must show the 51 members of the City Council this same level of broad-based support!

See you this Thursday
at City Hall!

Remember: two more historic district extensions anchored by West End Avenue have had public hearings at the Landmarks Preservation Commission but have not started on their path to City Council-affirmed landmark designation.  What happens this Thursday can impact the West End-Collegiate Historic District Extension and the Riverside-West End Historic District Extension II (more info available here and here).  If you live or work in these areas, please make every effort to attend this City Council meeting!

Can't make it?
You can still share your words of support with the City Council. An email or letter from you is absolutely essential to enforce just how important it is to preserve this incredible ensemble of buildings.
If they don't hear from you -- NOW -- it could cost the neighborhood its landmark protection.

Sending an email or writing a letter to your Council Member takes just moments; click here to get step-by-step instructions!
