Summer may be winding down, but this is an active weekend for exploring the Upper West Side! Stroll Columbus Avenue, sift through "vintage" photos and prints, support one of our neighborhood's most active block associations. This weekend's activities are detailed below, so get out there and enjoy the Upper West Side!
Come one, come all, to the Columbus Avenue Street Fair!
This Sunday, September 23rd, is the annual Columbus Avenue Festival, sponsored by the West Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. LANDMARK WEST! will be there! This event is a great opportunity for you to share information about our historic neighborhood, make new friends, and hear -- directly from you! -- just what you LOVE about the West Side.

WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 23rd;
12PM/noon to ... whenever!
WHERE: Northeast corner of Columbus Avenue
at West 67th Street
And this year, we're adding something new to our traditional roster of street fair goodies: a sale of "vintage" photos, prints and postcards! For a modest contribution -- make us an offer! -- you can add a piece of the LW! archive of West Side or New York imagery to your collection. For a sneak peek at what's up for grabs, visit our blog.
The West 69th Street Block Association invites you to their annual Book Sale, the proceeds of which will go toward the beautification of West 69th Street. Stop by while you're visiting the Columbus Avenue Festival and see what literary treasurers you can uncover.
WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 23rd; 10AM to 6PM
WHERE: Northwest corner of Columbus Avenue at West 69th Street
West 69th Street residents man the book sale tables.
You'll also find, on West 69th Street, incredible examples of excellence in landmark stewardship. Head over to 129-135 W. 69th St. to see what LW calls the "domino effect". That is, one homeowner thoughtfully restored their historic stoop; neighbors saw the impact of the work on the street and followed suit! The work (by expert brownstone restorer Jack Pontes) earned a 1998 Unsung Hero of the Upper West Side Award and continues to inspire today!
