one of our special guests never wears green on June 16? It's a James Joyce reference ...  Learn these tidbits (and which honoree was called "the man who never stops" by Texas Monthly) on Twitter!

Preservation in Action: News from the LW! blog

Hot off the LANDMARK WEST! blog e-press, news from our design review committee.

The latest proposal for review has taken our committee of volunteers into Central Park.  Specifically, to the Loeb Boathouse at the Lake in Central Park.  As our city's first Scenic Landmark (designated in 1974), any proposal for modification to Central Park's iconic landscape deserves meticulous review, thoughtful design and, most importantly, input from those of us who use and enjoy it: the community!

To learn what was proposed, how our committee weighed in, and what was ultimately approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) head to our blog now:

Our neighborhood is ever changing!  With so much news and interesting info to report and share, we rely on our blog as a source for daily communications with you, our neighbors and friends.  We hope you'll do the same, visiting our blog at landmarkwest.blogspot.com for your daily fix for news in preservation -- on the Upper West Side, and beyond!

Triumvirate: McKim, Mead & White:
Art, Architecture, Scandal, and Class in America's Gilded Age

Triumvirate is a rich, fascinating saga of the most influential, far-reaching architectural firm of their time and of the dazzling triumvirate--Charles McKim, William Mead, and Stanford White--who came together, bound by the notion that architecture could help shape a nation in transition. They helped to refine America's idea of beauty, elevated its architectural practice, and set the standard on the world's stage.
