 20th Annual Preservation Party
 and

 Grassroots Preservation Awards
 (details below)

This year, the awards are especially close to our West Side heart.  Among the grassroots efforts being honored is The Coalition to Save West-Park Presbyterian Church*!

Two decades of perseverance paid off on May 12, 2010, when the City Council voted to affirm the Individual Landmark designation of West-Park.  Now the real work of preserving this extraordinary building can begin...  Click here to learn more.

The Coalition to Save West-Park succeeded because of key leadership from Council
Member Gale Brewer, Manhattan Community Board 7, Friends of West Park,
Historic Districts Council, LANDMARK WEST!, and the New York Landmarks
Conservancy.

Honors will be awarded this Thursday, May 20th, at 6:00PM at St. Mark's Church-in-the Bowery Garden and Parish Hall.

To purchase tickets or for more information, contact the Historic Districts Council at (212) 614-9107 or by emailing hdc@hdc.org.

West-Park Presbyterian Church is a landmark at last thanks to the persistent advocacy of hundreds of individuals in the Upper West Side community and all five boroughs (every New York neighborhood has its own "West-Park" - buildings in desperate need of protection and revitalization).

We also want to recognize and thank:

Hon. Christine Quinn, Hon. Leroy Comrie, Hon. Brad Lander and all 51 members of the New York City Council
Hon. Robert B. Tierney and members of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission
Hon. Amanda M. Burden and members of the New York City Planning Commission
*West-Park Presbyterian Church's original chapel was designed by Leopold Eidlitz and built in 1884.  In 1890, a church addition was designed and built by Henry F. Kilburn.  West-Park is located at 165 West 86th Street (at Amsterdam Avenue).  For more historical background on the West Side's latest Individual Landmark, click here to read the Landmarks Preservation Commission Designation Report.|
