West-Park Continues on Road to Landmark Designation
|
Step 1: Landmarks Preservation Commission DESIGNATED West-Park by unanimous vote on January 12, 2010!
Step 2: City Planning Commission APPROVED LPC designation by unanimous vote on March, 10, 2010!
Step 3: On Tuesday, April 20th, West-Park Presbyterian Church was heard by the NY City Council Subcommittee on Landmarks, Public Siting and Maritime Uses. Dozens of landmark supporters testified to preserve West-Park, along with those who threaten to destroy this architectural masterpiece. |

The Council Chambers were filled as the
Subcommittee, led by chair Brad Lander, listened to public testimony
from more than sixty members of the public. The hearing continued long
into the afternoon. For pictures from inside the Council Chambers, check out LW! on Flickr.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who attended Tuesday's public hearing! Your
presence and decades-in-the-making testimony sent the message
loud and clear: West-Park has waited too long, but it is not too late. The Subcommittee will reconvene to make this crucial decision on Tuesday, May 4th (time and location TBD). LANDMARK WEST! will be there, and we need you there with us. Together, our presence (no public testimony will be admitted) will remind the Council members that we--the community--are counting on them to confirm the Landmarks Preservation Commission's designation of West-Park.
