Greetings!
It's hard to believe Fall is here and we're nearing the end of first quarter. This year is off to a great start and PTSA volunteers continue to be hard at work. The parent involvement at Pershing Middle School is remarkable. A superb dedicated faculty and staff, coupled with parental involvement, is key to helping our children succeed.
We are almost halfway to our Capital Campaign goal. If you have not yet donated, please consider writing a check today and sending it to the Pershing office. Every dollar counts and allows the PTSA to provide support to Pershing students, faculty and staff. Thank you to all who have already donated!
Sincerely,
Shannon Nagy 2010-11 Pershing PTSA President

CLOTHING BANK
We need your help! The district-wide PTA sponsors a clothing bank for needy families in the Springfield Public Schools. Pershing's assigned work day is Wednesday, Nov. 17. You also can help by donating! Right now, the clothing bank is in need of boys' clothes - gently-used jeans and pants, as well as new boxers and no-show socks. Any donations for the clothing bank can be placed in the gray tote in the lobby.
If you can help on Nov. 17, or if you have any questions, please email Kerry Bodenhausen at bodenhausen@mchsi.com, or call 894-0947. (I'll give you directions to the Clothing Bank (at Bailey Alternative School) on Central St.)

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Pershing Families,
It was great seeing so many families at our September Open House event. Thank you for picking up your student's Home Access passwords so you may monitor grades online. If you were unable to pick up your password at Open House you may stop by the office any time during business hours to get it. Please see Mrs. Lyons or Mrs. Kammerer in the Student Services Office and they will assist you.
We have already had many exciting events at Pershing and have had excellent student participation. We WANT all students to get involved. Research shows that students who get involved are more successful in school. Involvement looks different for every student. Some students are comfortable going out for sports, running for student council, singing in the choir, etc. while others like to come out and support our sports teams, attend dances, or join clubs. There are many levels of involvement so please support your student by encouraging him/her to be involved. At the middle school level, students are dependent upon their parents to take them to events or to pick them up after school hours. I assure you it will be worth your efforts. Parents of students who are involved in school also share the great joy of seeing their child succeed. Please watch our web page or join us on FaceBook to keep up with the many activities going on at Pershing.
First quarter will end on October 22. The week of November 1 has been designated as Parent-Teacher conference week. Teachers will be available after school hours that week to conference with you. Conferences do require an appointment as each core teacher works with over 125 students. Please contact the school office or your student's teacher to set up a conference.
We have had many, many parents join our PTSA. Please don't miss out on the opportunity to join. Your membership indicates a commitment from you that you support our school as we endeavor to make Pershing an awesome learning environment for your student. PTSA needs your financial support as well. I hope you will consider making a contribution to the PTSA capital campaign. 100% of your donation will go to projects designed to make Pershing the best middle school in Springfield!!
It is a privilege to serve the Pershing Community.
Regards,
Dr. Natalie Cauldwell
