A little bit of this and that...
Welcome to Fall,

Every other year Slow Food International, Slow Food USA, and Slow Food chapters around the globe, turn their attention to Terra Madre in Torino.  We, at Slow Food O'ahu, are no exception.  After a wonderful fundraiser to support our delegates to Terra Madre, many of us on the Executive Committee are also on our way this month of October to Italy.  As a result, our chapter-sponsored by our chapter will wait until November.  Nonetheless, there are several important events happening in the community hosted by other organizations that we want to let you know about in this newsletter.  We will see you soon with more events in November.

Your Executive Committee

Seeds of Truth (Na Kupu Mana'olana) at the Hawai'i International Film Festival

October 13, 2012, 3 p.m. and October 19, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.

Dole Regency Stadium Theater

The 86 minute film,  NA KUPU MANA`OLANA, celebrates the courageous work of farmers and educators throughout the state who are growing new ideas for increasing local food production through traditional, sustainable and organic methods.  This film has been nominated for the Halekulani Golden Archid Award, an award bestowed upon the narrative and documentary films that best express artistic and technical excellence and promote cross-cultural understanding.

According to the film, "for over 1,000 years the Hawaiian People produced enough food to support an estimated population of one million. Today, 85% of their food is imported.  And if current trends continue, Hawaii's last agricultural lands will be gone by 2040."  The film producer hopes that the film will inspire everyone to begin planting backyard gardens, engage in efforts to protect agricultural lands and to support local farmers by buying locally

grown food. Everyone can make a difference.

The film will premiere at this year's Hawai'i International Film Festival on October 13, 2012 at 3:00  p.m. at the Dole Regency Stadium Theater in Honolulu.  It will then be shown again on October 19, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.  Please join their Facebook page and keep up to date about the film's release and future screenings that are planned throughout Hawaii.  https://www.facebook.com/seedsofhopemoviehawaii.  For more information, you may also check their website at  http://www.seedsofhopethemovie.org/
