Happy Holidays...

We know that your holiday season has just begun with events on your calendar and thus we have a fairly light holiday season of Slow Food O'ahu events.  As you prepare your Thanksgiving feast or your holiday meals, please take a moment to buy local, sustainable, and organic, when possible.  We consume more food at this time of the year than any other and therefore it is the perfect time to make a conscious statement to "eat how you preach".

We know that First Lady Michelle Obama is not likely to know about our Slow Food O'ahu e-newsletter, but we wish to thank her for prioritizing her time in Honolulu recently to visit Ma'o Farm and host APEC spouses at Kualoa Ranch with chef Ed Kenney to promote local agriculture.  If she can keep nutrition and sustainability as a priority, so can we!

A little bit of this and that...

- The Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition has launched an online toolkit to assist anyone wanting to incorporate more local foods into their school lunch menus through a Farm to School program. The toolkit is designed to walk school food service personnel, food producers, distributors and others through the process of local foods procurement including information on local food sources, the definition of "local" and the seasonality of foods grown and produced in Nebraska. This new Farm to School toolkit is available at http://toolkit.centerfornutrition.org/.
