FRESH PLANT STEMS AND BERRIES FOR HOLIDAY DECORATING Dixie Speck, author
The following photos show some of the most popular plant types used for Holiday decorating and their names. These can be used to decorate mailboxes, mantles, embellish wreaths, table settings, front doors, and add to potted plants such as Amarylis for more impact. Try it out or call us for some ideas.
Cryptomeria trees are popular landscape trees and have beautiful branches to cut and use as greenery for decorating. Some branches can even have small brown cones on them.
Golden Chamaecyparis (Gold Mop) also has beautifully textured branches that add a bright contrast against other greenery.
Magnolia branches add a glossy texture contrast and are particulary great to use in mailbox decoration.
Of course we must include the bright red berries of Holly branches cut from tree-size Hollies.
Another lesser know Holly type is the Deciduous Holly with long, leafless branches of red berries (once the leaves fall off for the winter).
Another popular landscape plant is Nandina domestica whidh also has colorful foliage.
Juniper branches with blue berries are frequently added into wreaths for more texture and color.
