Greetings!,
In this issue of Shoot, we take
a look at how we approach large-scale projects. The Georgia Dome was designed by TVS Design and is the home
of the Atlanta Falcons. We were asked by the facility management to produce a new
set of photos for the marketing portfolio. Dingman Photo has a track record of photographing large
scale projects in the US and in China. Because of the logistics and the expenses
of lighting and site preparation, large-scale projects require detailed
planning. On the Ga Dome, we spent
a day scouting the site and shooting test shots. At the production meeting with
the client, we made suggestions about the best camera angles and
approaches. We decided to do one
shot at predawn and the other right after sunset. Once the approaches were
agreed upon, we made a checklist of all the things that needed to be done by shoot
day We needed security clearances, lights turned on, the landscape freshened, a
40' lift platform brought into place, access to electrical power, and cel phone
numbers for engineers onsite. Large-scale projects require careful pre-visualization,
planning, and detailed preparation.
It still amazes me to see the final images even after so much research
and preparation. Its rewarding
when everything goes as planned, and the final images look exactly like what I
imagined in my mind's eye on the afternoon we scouted the location. If
