Greetings Greetings!,

Fall is such a pretty time of year and brings with it a new set of challenges with the cooler weather and shorter days. Our Fall Safety and Security Tips section below provides some timely reminders.

While Bob and Dave were recently installing a door at a commercial business, we realized how important many facets are to an opening...not just the locks!  Dave's first video of an upcoming series, "The Many Facets of a Door", will show you what you need to know for your building.  Take a look...it is a short video.

Also see about Dave's recent attendance at the Eastern CT Association of Realtors Technology & Trade Show and see about our giveaway!

The Yankee Security Convention is next week, and both Dave and Bob will be attending.  Bob will be taking a class at the show and Dave, as Education Coordinator, will be overseeing the classes offered at the show, as well as assisting at the show to be held on Saturday & Sunday, October 20 & 21st...(Happy Birthday to Dave on Sunday!)

And finally, for a quick read, see what one locksmith sold on eBay recently...the possible consequences of this sale are kind of scary!

Dave represented AA Lock & Key, Inc., at the ECAR Tech & Trade Show in New London last week.  We raffled an Emtek Pushbutton Deadbolt, installed, to one lucky attendee.  It was a great show and Dave was able to educate individuals about the importance of rekeying after a building or home ownership transfer.

SECTIPS Fall Safety & Security Tips

As Daylight Savings Time will be here on Sunday, November 4th, it is important that you inspect your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and run a test to be sure they are in working order.  For your safety, be sure and change the batteries!

It is also a good time to check any electronic locks you may have and change out the batteries as well, so you are not locked out.  This would include push button door locks, as well as safes with digital key pads.

We recently had an inspection by the Ledyard Fire Marshal, Jim Mann, who comes out annually to be sure AA Lock & Key, Inc., is in compliance with fire code regulations.  A tip he had for us, which is very important to all of us, is that if you have an outlet that seems not to hold onto plugs, to call an electrician to inspect the outlet.  DO NOT BEND THE PRONGS ON THE ITEM YOU ARE PLUGGING INTO THE OUTLET!  Jim said that outlets can be a source of fires, both in homes and businesses.  For more information on this, read the Home Electrical Safety Checklist

If you put a container of Damp Rid in your safe, as we advised earlier in the year, now is the time to check it and replace any fluid that may have accumulated.  Ours in the safe at AA Lock & Key was completely liquid!
