This Month's Tip
This month's tip involves having an emergency backup in the form of a mechanical key for any electronic locking system, whether it is an overhead garage door opener or a battery-powered lockset. During Hurricane Irene, several of our customers found that they could not get into their homes because they depended on their automatic garage door openers (which don't work without power) to let them in. If they had carried (or even hidden or given to a neighbor) a key to another door into the garage or to the house, they would not have been locked out. Don't depend solely on an electronic device to get you into your home or business. Always have a backup in case the power (or the lock itself) fails.
