How To Stop Negative Thoughts

One of the most-often asked questions in our workshops or during coaching is, "how do I stop my negative thoughts?"

Because thoughts are attractive in nature and thoughts create feelings create manifestations, in order to attract better manifestations we need better feeling thoughts.

But sometimes it just seems so difficult to stop those pesky, negative thoughts!  It almost seems like the thoughts are thinking themselves.

Well, it might help to know that this isn't far from the truth.

We just recalled that thoughts are attractive in nature so wouldn't it follow that negative thoughts would attract more negative thoughts?

And wouldn't it also follow that negative thoughts would attract negative manifestations that, when we observe them, reinforce our negative thoughts?

See, it's not all your fault!  You can blame Law of Attraction for at least some of this trouble.

So, what to do about it?  There are two ways to break the negative thought cycle:

1) Work yourself up the Emotional Scale.  There are many processes you can use to do this.  We particularly like the 22 processes in the book, Ask and It Is Given, by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

If you don't have this book then you can still use the Emotional Scale to identify the feelings you're feeling and then try to find a thought that feels slightly better.  If you feel relief then you've found it.  Keep moving slowly up the scale until the negative pattern turns positive.

2) Distract yourself with something you enjoy.  This can be anything as long as it makes you feel better and is off the subject that's bothering you.  Take a walk, pet your dog, watch a favorite movie... you get the idea.

The only downside of this method is that it's temporary.  When you again think of the issue that originally caused your negative thoughts, you will tend to return to the negative state of mind.

The good news is that if you practice distracting yourself with good thoughts and then intentionally returning to

the negative subject often enough, it will soften and slowly become positive.  It just takes longer than

method number 1.

So, when you catch yourself spinning on that  negative subject, try one of these methods.  See how quickly you can prove your power and reclaim your good feelings!
