 Theory scares me!

 Al  Mires

 Hello All,

Al Mires here to talk about THEORY some people embrace it and others run away. Let me say that the single most important turning point in my playing was unraveling the mystery of music theory ( how scales and chords work together ) Once I did this I went from only being able to move forward by learning a lick or song from an Instructor or friend to being able to  compose and figure out music quickly on my own. Trust me if I can do it anyone can! Understanding it is really easy but organizing it on your instrument and applying it takes a bit more time. I have studied with many instructors and even some guitar hero/ icons as well. They all can speak this language and apply it even to the simplest of blues progressions. Don't get caught up in thoughts and cliches like "I don't need theory I play be ear" or "theory makes you sound nerdy and mechanical" Theory is not just for jazz players! It's for players who want to play better. When you step foot on any music school MIT etc. it will be standard teaching so If you want to paint a picture in black and white well that is fine once in a while but a color picture is always deeper, richer and provides more for the senses. So do not be afraid!.. fill your musical tool box with the right tools for any job and you will be a more rounded successful musician in no time. I have taught  advanced guitar theory and technique for years privately and in groups a Shasta College etc. I love this kind of teaching and  I will take on a few students this summer if interested.  call the store and let me know.

Happy picking Al Mires
