Terre del Principe of Campania

Terre del Principe in Campania

We long for wines that will move us, wines that reflect the land from which they come, that offer uncommon charms and a sense of endless possibility. Thanks to Terre del Principe, the ancient Pallagrello Bianco (White Pallagrello), Pallagrello Nero (Black Pallagrello) and Casavecchia have been revived to slake such thirst and restore Campania to its pride of place.

From vine to glass come wines from the past

With the Taburno and Matese mountains rising at its edges, the province of Caserta is comprised of soils and terrain ideally suited for vine growing. Here lie some of the finest plots in all of Campania. Only thirty minutes from Naples and an hour from the Amalfi coast, Terre del Principe could not have wished for a better position from which to champion the indigenous varieties of Campania.

Manuela e PeppePeppe Mancini and Manuela Piancastelli have long recognized the exceptional quality of the varietal wines of the region and their Terre del Principe is devoted to them. For the seekers among the crowd, these wines seem to call you by name and draw you in by a craving curiosity. That these keep you from carrying on in the hunt might come as a surprise but for sating what caused your search in the first place you will no longer care. Discover great wines crafted from forgotten grapes and enjoy another Italy altogether.

"The richness of Campanian oenology is still being discovered. These superb new releases from Terre del Principe are great starting points for readers who want to discover the virtues of Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia, all indigenous, native varieties that proprietor Peppe Mancini helped revive from near obscurity."

90 points - Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

"Bright medium yellow. Highly perfumed nose of peach, melon, tangerine and spices. Juicy, fruit-driven flavors of lemon, orange and grapefruit, plus a hint of caramel. This lovely entry-level wine shows considerable palate presence and an almost fat texture, as well as a long finish. I like its bright, lemony personality."

90 points - Wine Advocate "The 2008 Castello delle Femmine is an entry-level red made from Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia, two ancient Campanian varieties. Worn-in leather, licorice, spices and dark fruit are some of the notes that emerge in the glass. This is naturally a touch more forward than the estate's other 2008 reds and it should be enjoyed earlier rather than later. Still, the balance, length and refinement of the tannins are all impeccable."

90 points - Wine Enthusiast

"Ambruco is a softly layered and rich wine that imparts opulent aromas of chocolate, sweet spice, dark fruit, plum, prune and licorice. There's a touch of bitterness in the mouth but otherwise the mouthfeel is thick and dense enough to smooth out any wrinkles."
