Corteforte 2004 Amarone Vigneti di Osan
This wine is made from hand-picked Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grapes exclusively grown in the hilly "Osan" single vineyard. Harvested as flawless, prefectly ripe fruit, at less than one ton per acre [read as low as it gets], the grapes are further selected for the natural drying [appassimento] process, which lasts for a minimum of four months.

The extremely long and slow fermentation, due to the high sugar content of the grapes and the low winter temperature at which it occurs, allows for the formation of complex aromatic compounds that greatly enrich the final dry red wine -at once deep, aromatic, textural and broad flavored.
The two-year aging process takes place in 500 liter oak barrels, used so that the wood doesn't interfere with the wine's unique scents. After a further year spent in the bottle, the Amarone "Vigneti di Osan" is ready to be served but considering the wine's structure and complexity it drinks well more than 15 years from the harvest. This could be a reverie with red meats, game, and aged cheeses but also makes an ideal drink when served after dinner.
