In the Languedoc at the foot of France, the Corbières appellation presses into the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains and stretches east toward the Mediterranean Sea.  Growing grapes in this varied terrain and its balmy southern clime is tempered by coastal breezes that blow inland over hills and vines.  Such winds carried the Greeks to Corbières in the second century and with them they brought oenology.  Romans carried winemaking further inland and their ancient roads still traverse this Cathar country, transporting the wines of Corbières and many a wine drinker thirsting for a draught of the warm south.  Many varieties grow in the poor soils that top the local limestone bedrock, but Carignan and Syrah remain its calling card.  By way of its dense, fragrant, full bodied reds, Corbières has fostered a devoted following connecting us all to the Roman byways of bygone eras, southern France and the unsung heroes alive and well among the vines.
