I had the privilege of teaching photography to autistic adults, teens and children last year supported by the VSA of Montana. We gave them disposable film cameras and asked them to apply what they learned. To my delight they came back with some wonderful images. We selected the "best of" from each. entitled " Eyes On My World".
This body of work will premiere at the Begleiter Gallery this First Friday, April 2nd from 4:30 to 7. The show will continue throughout the month of April, National Autism Awareness Month. The show will be exhibited throughout the month.
I hope to see you opening night.

Current Assignments:
Patience is one of those important qualities you need as a photographer. That was very true in March. Almost all assignments were postponed till April early May. The most current assignment is from a new client Rory of MintageAirstreams" who has commission me to photograph their refurbished AirStreams. How cool is that!!! My obsession of photographing shiny objects is paying off. If you are not familiar with the Airstream click on the link above.
In addition I will be taking portraits for Mountain West Insurance and Financial Company for publicity.
The Month ends with an Architectural shoot for JacksonDean Construction out of Seattle. They have commissioning me to photograph the new REI store in Missoula for promotional purposes.
Of course there are always surprises.
Self Assignment: NEW
I am returning to one of my loves, Product Photography. So once a month I will be photographing a new product..maybe even more.
Here is April's Product: The Ducati motorcycle can reach up to 200 mph. My friend, Steve Robertson, lent me his for the day to shoot in my studio.

The Photographer's Almanac:

Eadweard Muybridge, ( 1830-1904) was one of the more eccentric and fascinating image makers in the history of photography. Since his birthday is April 9, I thought it appropriate to profile his ground breaking work in stop-motion photography and his zooprziscope
There is much written on the Englishman but two notable events that shaped his career and his place in history was what I call "The Bet" and " Homicide".
The bet is the story of Leland Stanford, Governor of California, who believed that all four horse's hooves left the ground at the same time during a gallop. To prove his theory and win a bet he hired the architectural/landscape photographer Muybridge to invent a way to visually prove his theory. In 1877 Muybridge set up 12 cameras in a line which with would trip the shutter by the horse running parallel to each camera. The result were 12 image of the horse galloping and one where all four legs were off the ground at the same time. The image is known as Sallie Gardner at a Gallop
Homicide: Muybridge became so infamous with his work in photographic motion studies he literally got away with murder. He discovered his wife had a lover in 1874, Major Larkyns, and in response to a love letter he had intercepted killed Larkyns with a gunshot. With the help of his friend and benefactor Standford, who paid for his criminal defense, he was acquitted as a justifiable homicide. I have two interesting connections to Muybridge. Where I taught for 10 years at the University of Pennsylvania, Muybridge had taken a total of 100,000 images of his stop-motion studies of Athletes and Animals. The other connection is about the same time I had photographed the contemporary composer Phillip Glass he had just completed his work " The Photographer" a tribute to Muybridge. For more visual info on Muybridge watch: "Meet the Art."
