The Gallery is closed for the month of August. We will take the month of August to prepare for the next show,
"Stickerville" These photographs are a series of images I had taken over a period of 5 years at private music festival outside of Helena,  Montana.
The work appeared in Big Sky Journal last year. I hope to have live old-timey music for the Frist Friday in September.

Prints will be signed, limited edition, framed and will  be for sale.

August is my month to get " my house in order".  I take this time to
get the studio together, prepare for the next gallery show, market and enjoy the final rays of a Montana Summer.

Of course that may all change in day with a welcome phone call.

Dear Friends,

StevenWelcome to my fourth newsletter.  Summer in Montana is great. Warm days, cool nights and plenty of outdoor activities.  July was a very productive month for the studio.

I spent one week in Idaho on assignment. TheKevin ConnollyExhibit drew over 200 people. I was hired by  the national magazine
Hearth & Home  to photograph the         Montana ccmpany . Axmen.  I lectured to  90 RMSP. photo students about photography and my career.  I was hired to  photograph senior portraits, not to mention a candidate for Ms. Teen Montana.  I did take time to take a lot of hikes into the mountains.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.  I look forward to you feedback and your continued support.

Sincerely, Steven

  Photo Tips for August:

One question I am always asked by photo enthusiasts is " What makes a good photograph?" There many variables that make a good photograph and it depends on what your objectives are, what you want to visually communicate and what moves you. There are a few fundamental techniques that you can apply that will immediately improve your photographs.

·The Golden Rule: This is a rule about composition. If you hypothetically segment your viewfinder or LCD screen into 9 equal squares and place your subject at one of the four points where the lines intersect this will make for a stronger composition.

· Busy Backgrounds:  Busy backgrounds can distract from your main subject. One way to get rid of BB is to use a shallow depth of field. Uhhh... by switching your camera mode to AV (aperture value) and setting your aperture between f 2.8 to f4 your main subject will be sharp and the background will be out of focus.

· Bright to the eye:  Your eyes are always drawn to what is in focus and what is bright. If you want to draw your viewer to a particular point of the photograph be sure that it is brighter than other parts of the photograph. There is nothing more distracting than white objects in the background that distract from the subject of the photograph...think of it as litter..get rid of it!!!
