Welcome to Real Estate at Villanova
I am pleased to share with you the inaugural newsletter of the Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate at the Villanova School of Business (VSB). We have created this newsletter to connect you with the Villanova real estate community and to update you on center news, events, and initiatives.
Over the past year, we have developed a number of programs to benefit our students and engage our alumni, industry partners, parents, and donors. We are grateful to the ever-growing Villanova real estate family for its enthusiastic response to the establishment of the center, especially during these challenging economic times. Recent efforts include our Real Estate Internship program, which provides talented students with an opportunity to apply the skills they've learned in our investments, law, and development courses. We also appreciate the support of leaders in the real estate community who have hired VSB graduates.

| Real Estate Thought Leadership |
An important component of the center's mission is to serve as a major thought leadership resource within the business community for real estate expertise. To this end, the center has sponsored two panel events examining current real estate issues.
The Commercial Credit Crisis Panel Event
The center convened an expert panel this fall to examine the effects of, and solutions to, the commercial credit crisis. Attendees, including students, faculty, and practitioners from over 50 companies, participated in a vibrant discussion that sought to identify opportunities arising from the crisis.
The panel discussion was moderated by Daniel M. DiLella VSB '73  (BPG Properties, Ltd.) and featured the insights of Dave Hartzell, PhD (UNC Center for Real Estate Development), Christopher Henderson (Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia), Michael Jones VSB '85 (Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc), Steven McCraney VSB '85 (McCraney Property Company), and Scott Williams (BPG Properties, Ltd.). The event was generously sponsored by the McCraney Property Company.
Urban Land Institute Residential Housing Panel
The center also partnered with ULI Philadelphia to sponsor a panel event examining the housing downturn's effect on residential development in the Delaware Valley.

| Second Annual Commercial Real Estate Career Conference |
This March,  the center welcomed 30 regional and national real estate companies to its second annual Commercial Real Estate Career Conference. Shaun Lyons A&S '00 (Precision Realty Group, pictured) addressed students on creating opportunities in today's challenging market. John Derham (Cushman & Wakefield), Kevin Flynn A&S '61 (The Flynn Company), and Sam Morreale VSB '81 (Vision Equities) provided recommendations for students starting their careers, and Ken Browne VSB '89 (Browne Fino Davis), Michael Hagan (Liberty Property Trust), and Lizann McGowan A&S '91 (CB Richard Ellis, Inc.) shared their outlook on the direction of the real estate market. Alumni Profile: Daniel M. DiLella VSB '73
President and CEO, BPG Properties, Ltd.
 Daniel M. DiLella VSB '73, President and CEO of BPG Properties, Ltd., is an active philanthropist in the Philadelphia community. Throughout his career, he has supported a wide variety of humanitarian, educational, and cultural causes. His establishment of the Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate marks his largest charitable contribution ever, and will change the face of business education at Villanova.
He said of his gift to Villanova, "When I was a student, Villanova provided me with the knowledge and opportunities I needed to develop the career I have today. It is my hope that the new DiLella Center for Real Estate will provide young people who are interested in real estate, as I was, with the resources they need to pursue successful and rewarding careers in the field." |
