Education for Sustainability: An International Affair
Collective Initiatives: The need for the higher education sector to seriously address climate change is being realized around the world. Effective initiatives inspired by or in-line with the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) are currently underway in countries such as Scotland, UK and Australia. A few of the established programs dedicated to climate commitment are the Universities and Colleges Climate Commitment for Scotland (UCCCfS), the Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability Association (ACTS), and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges in the UK (EAUC).
Individual Actions: Also, on October 10, 2010, when more than 30,000 students from over 200 universities in China came together and launched a nationwide program for climate action, the University of Babylon in Iraq also installed the first solar panel on its campus! Read our blog to learn more about the individual actions by students around the world participating in the "10/10/10 Global Work Parties" campaign.
ACUPCC at COP16: This year, the 16th Conference of Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted in Cancun, Mexico. Second Nature, in partnership with UNCF, will participate in this international meeting to share how ACUPCC model could prove effective in building sector-wide movement for climate action in other sectors and countries.
