A Call to Action: 10 new ACUPCC signatories by 10/10/10:







The United Negro College Fund and Second Nature are inviting Minority Serving Institutions to join t
he "10/10/10" campaign!  The goal is to pursue 10 Minority Serving Institutions to take the leadership role in this movement by signing the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC)

This is a great opportunity for the higher education community to move forward on the path of sustainability and address climate action on the campus.  If you are working with a Minority Serving Institution, then please urge your leadership to participate in this global movement for climate action by signing the Commitment!


Free Workshop for Minority Serving Institutions:
"Introduction to Greenhouse Gas Management and Climate Action Planning for Minority Serving Institutions"
Atlanta, GA | November 4-5, 2010 | Register by October 15, 2010

This two-day workshop is offered at no cost to all Minority Serving Institutions.

This is the first workshop of the UNCF Building Green Training Series.  Participants will learn about the basics of greenhouse gas management and the processes involved in developing a campus climate action plan.  The registration deadline is October 15, 2010.  To register, please contact Barbara Koneval or call 617 722 0036 X207.

Guide to Tribal Energy Development provides the basics of energy efficiency technology to help tribal regions reduce their energy need.

The Rural Development Electric Programs, developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provide assistance for rural and tribal communities.

The U.S. Green Building Council is offering a 20% discount on all its educational products and workshops from now until October 31, 2010.  To take advantage of the discount, please enter code "FALL2010" during checkout.

Opportunities to Engage Students on Your Campus:

EPA's Environmental Entrepreneurship Program provides specialized funding opportunities to help Minority Serving Institutions train students in fostering social and economic sustainability in local communities.

EPA's 8th Annual P3 Award invites all students to propose ideas that can be implemented as solutions to  real-life sustainability issues.  The deadline to apply is December 22, 2010.

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) launches the Sustainability Education & Economic Development (SEED) Initiative.  The initiative includes an online center of free resources on education materials, best practices and other information that will enable your institution to build a quality green job training program for the students.

Campus Green Builder
is a web portal to green building information and a free one-stop online resource on campus green buildings that is accessible to all higher education institutions.
