Hello, I am a new MMBA director, and happy to be one!
My name is Shelly Dillon and I am the Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Callaway (Pop 234). We have an off/on sale establishment. Believe it or not, I've wanted to be a member/director of this unique group since I went to a MMBA Boot Camp in 2010.
A little about me. I am a wife to Matt Dillon (Public Works Director for Callaway). We will be married 25 years in October. I am a mother to two sons, Elijah (18) and Noah (16). I grew up in Callaway and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School.
Matt and I are both former Marines, so needless to say we like order amongst the chaos! I have worked for Callaway for 10+ years. I am also a licensed assessor for Becker and Mahnomen County and a church organist. (I have all my bases covered!) I love my jobs!
I knew nothing about the liquor business when I started. We had a competent manager so I didn't need to be involved. Then the Liquor Manager, Chuck Prussia, retired after 30 years of great service.
The new manager, Patty Spry (promoted from Senior Bartender) and I wanted to infuse a new vibe and direction into our Liquor Store and figure out what we were doing and the best way to go about it. What a better way to start than going to MMBA Boot Camp. We learned so much and met many great people, that I knew I wanted to be a part of this organization.
As I see it, I would like to help encourage a good working relationship between City Hall and Municipal Liquor Stores. I feel I can offer City Clerk/Treasurer knowledge to the MMBA to help in the objective of controlling the sale of alcohol AND generate income for the community.
A good relationship between the Liquor Store Manager and the City Clerk is a must! We need to work together by putting in place good policies and procedures so everyone will know what is expected of them and how to work together to achieve these goals.
I would be happy to share with you Callaway's policies and procedures or help create your own. I can be contacted by phone 218-375-4691 or email, callaway@arvig.net.
Cheers!
Shelly Dillon
