Beacon Clinics Have Major Impact on Diabetes Care

HealthInsight has been collecting de-identified data from clinic electronic health records (EHRs) as it has become available since Beacon launched in 2010. Beacon analysts consider the 4th quarter of 2010 as the first data- point for baseline measures. Specific clinic data has not been shared with anyone outside each clinic, although each clinic is provides data to receive feedback on their own performance compared to a "community average." Many of you have wondered and asked about Beacon's impact in the community. <<FULL ARTICLE>>

The Road to Meaningful Use

HealthInsight is proud to announce that the Regional Extension Center consistently exceeded the goals of the Office of the National Coordinator in assisting you and your colleagues in EHR adoption and Meaningful Use.  Our programs in both states are fully enrolled, with nearly half of you using certified EHR systems to send electronic prescriptions and generate quality reports.  Eight percent of you have already attested to Stage 1 Meaningful Use!  Congratulations to all of the REC participants who are continuing to take strides to improve the quality of care for their patients.

Provider Spotlight

Brand Reynolds, NP works out of a rural location in Tooele, Utah. This community has a lot of seniors and struggles with diabetes. Over the past 2 years, Brand has sought out assistance from the Regional Extension Center and the Beacon project and has had some great results. Despite being a small operation, he has recently hired a care manager to provide additional support for his chronically ill patients. His patients are also happier with his level of care. Additionally, he has implemented meaningful use and performed well on the Beacon project (diabetes care) without being eligible for Meaningful Use dollars. His altruistic motives have paid off. He has mentioned that he has seen an increase in business as a result of participating in the meaningful use and Beacon work. Great job Brand Reynolds and thanks for your work on quality in Tooele!
