Provider Spotlight

UPDATE: In February we highlighted Family Doctors of Boulder City for their efforts in leading the way as one of the first Regional Extension Center participants, moving forward through a number of challenges to go-live on an electronic record in December.   Family Doctors of Boulder City were among the very first in Nevada to sign-up to work with the Regional Extension Center to begin moving toward the adoption of Electronic Health Records and Meaningful Use.

The four primary care physicians practicing at Family Doctors of Boulder City completed their attestation in August to join a small but growing group of primary care physicians in Nevada to achieve Meaningful Use.  It took them just a little more than a year and 2 months to start their 90 days attestation period, which is a significant accomplishment for a practice that continues to serve as the primary care providers for a large volume of residents in Boulder City.

Congratulations to Dr. Warren Smith, Dr. Herve Bezard, Dr. Joanne Leovy, Dr. Jim Chiang and all of the dedicated staff at Family Doctors of Boulder City for their accomplishment.

CMS Clinical Quality Measures Webinar

On August 30, 2011, CMS held a webinar discussing clinical quality measures (CQMs) and how to successfully report the measures during Stage 1 of meaningful use for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

A PDF of the webinar presentation is now available online. Go to the Spotlight and Upcoming Event Section of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs website to download this presentation.  The presentation includes information on:

  • An overview of the CQMs
  • How  to report CQMs during attestation
  • Why CQMs are included in the EHR Incentive Programs

The webinar also included an hour-long question-and-answer session with CMS subject matter experts. In the coming weeks, a transcript with all of these questions and answers, along with a video of the webinar, will be made available online.

CMS plans to host another CQM webinar soon. Stay tuned for updates on how you can join this informational session.

ICD-10 General Equivalence Mapping Tool

General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) were created to map current ICD-9-CM codes to applicable ICD-10 codes. This tool has GEMs with the long descriptions attached both from a forward and backward view.  The results are exportable to Excel.  This may be helpful to some of you in your ICD-10 Implementation.  The HELP has instructions for use.
