Dear ,
Some Last Minute Gifts
Well here we are. Christmas is only days away. In a few short hours our plans will either have to be completed in a last minute rush or abandoned until next year. I realize that a big contributor to the stress of Christmas is finding just the right gift for certain people in our lives. Unless we are trusting in Santa's memory and the elves' handiwork, the selection and purchasing of Christmas gifts can be very stressful. By the way, did you hear about one little girl who climbed into Santa's lap at the mall? Santa asked her his usual question: "And what would you like for Christmas little girl?" The child stared at him open mouthed and horrified for a minute and then gasped, "Didn't you get my text message?" Anyway, even if we have received all kinds of hints and straight forward requests for presents this Christmas, and even if we feel we have already spent too much time and way too much money shopping, I still want to suggest a few last minute gifts for you to give this Christmas:
1. The Gift of Appreciation- Spend a couple of minutes and think of just two people you have not talked to for sometime, who really touched your life in a positive way (Perhaps an old teacher, a coach, a relative, a friend, a classmate, a doctor, a military buddy). Find their phone number or email address and contact them and say something like: "I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you this Christmas and ..."
2. The Gift of Forgiveness- If I understand anything about the meaning of Christmas, it is that God in Christ brought all of us the gift of forgiveness. It is a wonderfully freeing gift. Take a couple of minutes and think of someone who has wronged you. They don't deserve it; perhaps they don't want it; they certainly won't expect it; yet, they and you need the gift of forgiveness. On the cross Jesus never pretended the pain others caused was not real. Rather, He took control of the pain and hurt and used it to advance life. "I forgive you," are three powerful words. By the way, "I am sorry," are three powerful words also.
3. The Gift of Presence- We are becoming more and more impersonal in our world of social networking. It is easier to communicate by email, Facebook, text or some other electronic means. Christmas declares, "The Word became flesh ...." Think of someone, (spouse, child, teenager, friend) and just give them some real "presence"- your undivided attention and time.
Merry Christmas,
Mike

It is a brave and worthy endeavor to do the work of putting together the pieces of a broken heart. While every loss is unique, we weren't designed to bear the weight of sorrow alone.

Understanding the spiritual disciplines and instructions for developing and nurturing those practices.
The Me I Want To Be
Life is not about any particular achievement or experience. The most important task of your life is not what you do, but who you become. God's vision for your life is not just that you are saved by grace, but that you also learn to live by grace, flourishing with the Spirit flowing through you.
Hole in Our Gospel
What does God expect of us? Is our faith just about going to church, studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins-or does God expect more? See how the gospel-the whole gospel was always meant to be a world changing revolution, a revolution that begins with you.

Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive
Now through January 17th, Burlington Coat Factory, located at the Savannah Mall, is sponsoring a coat drive. Bring your gently worn coats for adults and children and they will be distributed to people in need in our community.
Back Pack Program
We are excited that we will be expanding the Back Pack Program in 2011 due to funding from Day on the Island, the Prayer Shawl Ministry and an individual donor. In January, we will prepare 50 bags (up from 25) of food each week for children at Isle of Hope Elementary School to take home with them every weekend. The bags insure that the children receive some nutritious food while not at school. If you would like to help with this program by picking up the food at Second Harvest Food Bank, packing and/or delivering the bags, please call Julie or Marjo.
