Dear ,
A Church with a Mission
"To Excel in Hope!"
Martin Luther, the great reformer, once said, "Everything that is done in the world is done by the hopeful." What a great statement. That's a big part of why I, and so many others, love and appreciate this Church. This is a place where hope rules! For us, hope is more than a pipe dream. It is more than just the third word in our name. It is an active, deliberate, intentional revolt against the unrelenting threat of helpless resignation. There are so many people in our desperate world on the verge ofacquiescence to hopelessness. Unfortunate circumstances have caused many to draw back from the pursuit of a vital, meaningful life. Yet, in the face of this growing hopelessness here and around our world, God is raising up individuals and ministries within the Isle of Hope UMC family and using them as heralds of hope!
From Hope for Haiti to Heifer International; from We Care Meals to Wesley Community Centers; from Coastal Jail Ministries to the Inner City Night Shelter; from Second Harvest Food Bank to Interfaith Hospitality; from Christ Child's Nest in Guatemala to L.O.V.E. Mentors at Isle of Hope Elementary School; from Mexico to Uganda to Brunswick to India to Charleston, the children, youth and adults of this great Church are serving as witnesses for Christ and harbingers of hope. Our United Methodist Women and United Methodist Men are engaged in hope giving ministries as well as Sunday school classes and other groups.
As followers of Christ we are all called to be heralds of hope. I want to encourage you to find a place to get involved and then just jump in. Your active involvement in the work of hope giving is a big part of your growth in Christ. This Advent season why not make a conscious decision to join what I am calling The Hope Givers Revolution! Here are a few suggestions on how you can become one of our revolutionaries:
1. Be present in worship; your voice, your prayers, your gifts, your smile matters.
2. Contact Julie Vann and find out how you can get connected and involved in an outreach ministry.
3. Contact Rev. Meg Procopio and find out how you can become a "Hope Giver" to our children and youth.
4. Commit to pray for our missions, ministries, missionaries and others on a daily basis.
Join the Revolution, Excel in Giving Hope,
1 Peter 3:15
Mike

Our Christmas Focus
This year you may choose to help others in need in our worldwide community by visiting the Missions table in the church hallway on Sundays, December 5th, 12th and 19th.
· Choose a stocking from our Christmas tree and "adopt" a child through Wesley Community Centers by making a donation of $25 to Wesley. The money will be used to purchase a gift card for the child's parent to purchase a gift for the child. Make checks payable to Wesley Community Centers and note "Christmas focus."
· Choose an angel from the Christmas tree and purchase a gift for a child at New Beginnings UMC, our United Methodist Hispanic community at Silk Hope UMC. Purchase a gift for $10 or less, wrap and return it to the church by Monday, December 13th.
· Make a donation to Heifer International to purchase a gift of livestock in honor or memory of a loved one. Make checks payable to IOHUMC and note "Heifer". Gift cards will be provided.
RED SCARVES AS GIFTS
A red scarf for Wesley makes a great gift for that person who has everything. What a wonderful way to honor someone with a contribution of $50 to Wesley Community Centers, and they get a handmade red scarf. Scarves are available at the church office and other activities.
