With all the emphasis on the presents and parties and jingle bells and "holiday" specials, the real meaning of Christmas can so often get lost in the shuffle. Make a commitment today to "get real" this Christmas and remember what this season is all about: the celebration of the birth of God's Son, Jesus, our Herald of Hope! Christmas Nativity Pageant

* Personal Poinsettia Orders will arrive at the church Wednesday, December 1st. They will be available for pick up during office hours.

 

 

Lunch Bunch will be having our annual Christmas luncheon at Phyllis Curlee's home Wednesday, December 8th, at 11:30 AM, 109 McIntosh Dr.  Please bring a covered dish of your choice.  We'll be bringing Walmart gift cards to give to the charity that we help support:  Coastal Children's Advocacy Center.  All women of the church are welcome.  Please call Linda Nowlin, 598-2102 or Barbie Lientz, 355-6512 with questions.

   

 

Christian Women's Club is an international interdenominational non-membership organization that meets the 4th Wed. of each month (except Dec.).  The Dec. meeting will be Wed., December 15th, at Carey Hilliard's Banquet Room, 11111 Abercorn Street Ext. from 12:00 - 1:30 PM. Special feature will be Premier Jewelry with Lori Zipperer.  Music will be Christmas Carols led by Eileen Newman.  Judy Pharis from Dublin, GA shares "How to find gifts in unlikely places."  Price of luncheon is $10.25; reservations are requested by Mon. Sisters In Christ: Please join us Monday, December 13th from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM- in the parlor for fellowship, a devotion and and a fun time of Christmas sharing. We will start with a cookie exchange, so please bring 2 dozen cookies or goodies and a container to store the ones you select to take home! We will also have time for everyone to share their favorite Christmas tradition and/or ways your family stays focused on the true meaning of Christmas.  Please call Kim Kraft, 355-8527, if you need the nursery for your child.  We are mostly mothers of children ages newborn-18, and we meet the second Monday of every month

A great big thank you to our dear church family at IOHUMC. We wish we could give  each and every one of you an individual Thank You and Hug for the many acts of kindness, love and concern you have shown us during this time of poor health but they are too numerous to name. we have felt all the prayers you  have made to Our Father In Heaven on our behalf. He has been with us every step of the way. God is Love and May God Bless You as He has blessed us.

ARTS FROM THE ISLAND

Several events are planned for this December as we begin to grow into a new vision of arts outreach ministry.  On Saturday, December 4, at 10:30 AM, the Handbell Choir will share a program of Christmas music at Spanish Oaks Retreat.  On Tuesday morning, December 7, the Ladies Chorus will sing Christmas carols at several area nursing homes and retirement communities.  Then, on Saturday, December 18, at 5 AM at New Covenant UMC, our Chancel Choir will offer free dinner and a reprise of this year's Christmas cantata Child of Hope for the inner city poor and homeless community.

Thanksgiving Breakfast at Union Mission

A word of thanks to the following volunteers who prepared and served breakfast to the men, women and children at Union Mission on Thanksgiving morning. It was a special time of delicious food, good fellowship and much thanksgiving.

Our Christmas Focus

This year you may choose to help others in need in our worldwide community by visiting the Missions table in the church hallway on Sundays, December 5th, 12th and 19th.

· Choose a stocking from our Christmas tree and "adopt" a child through Wesley Community Centers by making a donation of $25 to Wesley. The money will be used to purchase a gift card for the child's parent to purchase a gift for the child. Make checks payable to Wesley Community Centers and note "Christmas focus."

· Choose an angel from the Christmas tree and purchase a gift for a child at New Beginnings UMC, our United Methodist Hispanic community at Silk Hope UMC. Purchase a gift for $10 or less, wrap and return it to the church by Monday, December 13th.

· Make a donation to Heifer International to purchase a gift of livestock in honor or memory of a loved one. Make checks payable to IOHUMC and note "Heifer". Gift cards will be provided.

Make a donation to The Christ Child's Nest in honor or memory of a loved one. Make checks payable to IOHUMC and note "Christ Child's Nest." Gift cards will be provided.

Our Communion Offering

Our Communion Offering this Sunday will support the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund. As followers of Jesus Christ, United Methodists are called to address the AIDS pandemic in a comprehensive, effective way in local communities and around the globe. The UM Global AIDS Fund supports education, prevention, care, and treatment programs for people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

Our communion offering during the Christmas Nativity Pageant on December 19th will go to the Pastor's Emergency Fund.

 

The Communion Offering on Christmas Eve will go to OFCB Ministries in Bayonnais, Haiti.

Advent A Time Of Preparation

Collecting items for Operation Christmas Child, cutting greenery for Advent wreaths, setting up, cleaning up, cooking chili & desserts so much preparation for our Family Advent Workshop and so many people to make it all happen. Thank you to the Advent Team Leaders Wez Childers - Shoe Box Store, Marjo Zelinsky - Card Making, Evon Alexander, Don & Holly Thompson - Wreath Making, Lynn & Bill Hagan - Box Drop, Johnnie Morris - Greeters, Lindsay Bradley - Music, Katie Borges, Eddie & Brenda Boaen - Kitchen & Boston Butts, Fellowship Hall Setup - Betsy Sampey, Janet Geriner Clean Up - Doug McManamy and new this year our Wonder Walk Story Time - Holly Geriner, Amy Henneman & Leigh Ann Sedlock.

KFC - Operation Christmas Child

KFC will be heading to Atlanta to deliver our 175 boxes & work in the Operation Christmas Child Warehouse. We will leave Saturday, December 4th 8:00AM and return Sunday, December 5th 4:30PM.

Regular KFC on December 5th, 4:30-6:00PM meet in the Fellowship Hall for some ADVENT-UROUS fun.

GodSquad

This will be our last regular GodSquad this year (2010), so don't miss it.

This Sunday, 5th come and enjoy GodSquad 4:30-6:00PM as we get into the holiday spirit with some reindeer games.

December 12th no GodSquad due to Nativity Practice. If you haven't signed up its not to late!

December 19th if your not in the Nativity Pageant come with your family and enjoy the program at 5:00 PM.

December 28th no GodSquad enjoy the holidays and time spent with family.

The deadline for youth to register for the 2011 Youth Choir Tour to Colorado Springs is this Sunday, December 5.  Forms and fees can be brought to the church office, the music office, or to the youth choir rehearsal.

Our Children's Choirs will be singing at Wednesday Night Suppers during December.  The Kids of the Kingdom (grades 1 through 5) will share music on December 8, and the Joyful Noise Choir (age 4 through Kindergarten) will sing on December 15.  Dinner reservations required!

All children in grades 1-5 who study an instrument privately are invited to play in the Nativity Pageant Sunday evening, December 19.  Those interested should call Nancy Vogelsang at 351-9223 by Monday, December 13.  Youth in grades 6-12 who study privately are invited to play in worship Friday evening, December 24.  Those interested should contact Nancy by Thursday, December 16.

Ski trip is quickly falling upon us! Sign ups were due Fri. Nov. 12th, but we still have spots open, so be sure to turn in your form and first deposit into Marjo ASAP! We will be leaving Friday, Jan. 14th and making our way to Winterplace, WV for a stacked weekend full of music, teaching, and of course, skiing! Your second deposit of $175 is due by Dec. 5th

Pursue, is our high school girls retreat and it is coming up! It will be held Sat. Dec. 11th at Pam Rody's house from 9am-6pm. There will be a guest speaker, as well as a delicious lunch and a time to paint pottery.
