Dear ,
All Saints' Sunday
October 31, 2010 All Saints' Day is a universal festival of the Christian Church. This festival day directs our attention to the richness of our Christian history and the varied experiences of the grace of God revealed through the lives of His saints. The custom of commemorating all the martyrs of the Church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. All Saints' Day (November 1) celebrates not only the martyrs and saints of the past, but all the people of God, living and dead, who together form the mystical body of Christ. This year we will celebrate All Saints' Sunday on October 31st at all of our morning worship services. Listed below are the names of the members of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church who have died since All Saints' Day last year. We take time to remember them and give thanks for their lives. We remember and find strength in the fact that God's grace is demonstrated in such a wide range of personalities and His love is revealed as individuals make their unique contribution to our lives and faith. As is our custom here at Isle of Hope, during our worship services we will lift up the names of our members, and relatives of members, who have died since last All Saints Sunday. The families of those we honor are invited to bring a flower to present at the altar at a designated time in worship. All the flowers will be arranged in a bouquet and presented as a beautiful image of God's great love revealed through the diversity of the lives represented. Our Honored Dead Harriett Barras

Day On the Island THANK YOU
Day on the Island 2010 is now a happy memory and a very glorious one indeed. The weather was perfect and everyone appeared to be enjoying all the activities. We sold over 750 tickets and more than 200 church members shared their time and talents to make the day a success. To thank each person involved would be extensive but the day would not have been possible without all of our UMW circles doing such great jobs with their designated responsibilities. In addition, we especially appreciate our kitchen staff, ticket sellers, pastors, office staff, Friends N' Needles, Recycled Christmas Shop workers, tour home owners, transportation workers, child care staff, check room workers, Goodwill helpers and of course, all the men who assisted in so many areas. If we have omitted anyone, we apologize and please know your help was appreciated. Because of all your many efforts, our guests were able to experience the Christian spirit in our wonderful church and many people will be blessed with the proceeds of DOI 2010. THANK YOU!
In His Spirit,
Linda Martin & Joy Gainer

Red "Love" Scarves for Wesley
Because the United Way was unable to meet their 2010 campaign goal, Wesley Community Centers lost $40,000 in funding for their many programs. The Prayer Shawl ladies decided to knit red "love" scarves to help Wesley in a small way. Red scarves will be $50 and the funds will go directly to Wesley Community Centers. This project will begin in Nov. at the UMW General Meeting on Nov. 9th at 7 PM and each Circle meeting, and continue until Christmas at other venues. Make checks payable to IOHUMC and mark it "Prayer Shawl/Wesley". Let's wear red until the Love Walk on Feb. 12th and on Valentine's Day!

For Youth & College
Isle of Hope United Methodist Church - This message is for you! We have an upcoming event for our high school students that I would love for everyone to be involved in! On Nov. 5th-6th, our youth will be taking part in an event entitled "Insomnia." The goal of this event is for our students to give up the opportunity of a good nights rest so that they can understand and appreciate all that God has blessed them with. We will also be raising money to provide beds for orphans in Uganda. Each student has been asked to raise $50. This event is for high school, but I would love if our whole church could come together and give towards this cause. And here's the best part - you do not have to give a large amount. You can contribute $1, $5, $10; however much you feel God is calling you to give. Donations will be accepted from now until Nov. 5th, so let's come together and give for a good cause!
ASP sign ups are coming up soon! Seniors will be able to sign up from Monday, Nov. 15th - Friday, Nov. 19th. Sophomores and Juniors will be able to sign up the week after starting Monday, Nov. 22nd. Julie and I will not be taking forms - ALL FORMS MUST GO TO MARJO AT THE MAIN CHURCH OFFICE. NO EARLY FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
